Good or Garbage?

Need to replace the heads on my 6.2L to put the turbocharger on. Options include overhauling a set of cracked 93 6.5L heads I have, or purchasing new DSG 6.5L heads.

The heads I have would need new valves, guides, springs, retainers and a valve seat grind. Good chance I'd need to get the heads surfaced as well.

DSG heads are brand new (5 minutes or so of running time) for $800, local fella has them.

Opinions?

personally I'd be really wary of the Chinese castings that DSG uses . . .

Are those heads cracking around the valve seats or through the fire ring on the pre-cups? If not, I'd use them . . .

I would like offer you a great deal. A pair of matched 6.2 heads new and never been installed for half the cost that you mentioned. Plus shipping.

Thanks Dan

Any ideas on the cost of shipping to me here in Canada via ground mail?

My postal code is T8E 2C8. Best to ship it USPS so I don't get hammered with some sort of a brokerage fee. You'll likely have to ship them individually, as I doubt they'd ship both.

If the shipping is reasonable, I may have to take you up on that offer...

Rusell,
Orignaly the heads were purchased from Canada. You can chick the shipping from your address to 95431.
Thanks Dan

Well, according to USPS's website, we'd be looking at about 120 bucks per head to ship em via the slowest possible method. Has me looking at 2 weeks delivery, and about 640 shipped for a savings of about $160 over the local guy who has the 6.5L heads.

Regardless, I wouldn't be able to afford to pick up a set for a few more weeks till I start working, but I will let you know what I decide to do when I have the chance.
