Dual altenator setup for "vintage air" a/c for '86 CUCV?

Hello,

I need some advice, I have a '86 CUCV that I'm restoring and want/need to install an A/C (I live in HI...lots of stop'n go traffic). I was considering the "vintage air" A/C for the mod. The problem that I'm encountering is the 2nd altenator sits where the A/C compressor should go, right? Any suggestions? Is there a dual altenator bracket kit for the 6.2l diesel that would free up the 2nd altenator spot? FYI, I also have a 12A winch that needs power. Thanks in advance.

Could convert to 12V, since the 24V is sort of a bastard setup anyway. This is simpler and easier to maintain, especially if you meant you have a 12 *volt* winch. http://www.roscommonequipmentcenter.com/nn10.pdf has info if you're not familiar with re-doing multi-battery systems.

If you REALLY wanted to keep it 24V, the M1010 (ambulances) had AC, and so had a single high capacity alternator.

I would just convert to 12 volt.

This. Keep the 2nd battery, but run them in parallel instead of series. Simpler, no more non-standard military parts, and you can throw away the glowplug-ruining resister bank on the firewall.

Oh, and you'll have room for an A/C compressor, too. That's just the icing on the cake.

Thanks for all the suggestions and answers. My current plan is to keep the dual altenator setup and add a nostalgic AC bracket with compressor and add the vintage air AC unit... I have a ton many items that run on 24v...light bars, 12A winch, inverters, etc.

I'll keep you posted with updates on the build.

Cheers.
