Location
Nebraska looking for D60's
Are they like really rare or what? Been kinda looking around and haven't seen one. Mainly curious but may need one for a work truck this fall.

They are out there, but not very common. Also come with 4.88s IIRC. Guy that bought a truck I had years ago had one, he said it had the '88s....

He was wrong. All CUCV pickups had 4.56's, even the duallies.

They were the M1028A2's and yes they are rare. Mostly ended up in the AF up in the Dakota area driving around with large radio/camper shacks in the back doing missile field security. However they turn up everywhere, I know a guy with one in Hawaii.

Oh yeah, there's a place in Wisconsin that sells "reconditioned", "like new", and "as close to new from the factory as possible" CUCV's called Alfa Heaven. He's had a few of the duallies since I bought mine in late '06...but I wouldn't buy anything from that asshat again. Liar, cheater, theif, rip off artist. The trucks get enough work to make them reliable enough to start up and drive away and a new paint job to make them pretty...and that's it. Oh, don't forget the bondo.

I thought all the 4 door militar trucks had 4.10's. I've seen one (Coast Guard) dually up close once that did and my old USAF srw crew cab did also.

If it's a crew cab it's not a CUCV. Just a Chevy truck bought by the government. CUCV's were ONLY the single cab pickups and the Blazers. No crewcabs or Suburbans.

That said I have seen where inventive/board maintenance guys grafted the brush guards onto the civy Chevy's and some even ended up with camo paint so that often confuses folks.

i can get cucvs all the time. i have come across 3 on the net for sale. a town in north NJ has 2 of them. been out of use for a while now hoping to get them. thats all i have ever seen tho. they are pretty rare.

I don't like his asking price of this one: http://www.alfaheaven.com/Military Section/ChevyPickups/ChevPages/MC98.html

He's been trying to sell it for a while.

His trucks LOOK excellent at first when you're standing there. So much that you sorta start drooling and half your brain shuts off. Then later when you notice your first leak or oddity or just problem it's too late. I try to spread the word about him but he's an advertiser over on www.SteelSoldiers.com and I got an attempted peepee slap for saying he's a liar and a cheat.

I have his site bookmarked and have noticed he's been trying to sell that dually for quite some time, too.

To be honest, I think the trucks look nice from the pics, but like you say....

I also believe looks can be deceiving, so, buyer beware....

Yep, one of the big arguments they had with me was why didn't I go back and sue him or try and return it, call the state of WI, etc etc etc. Well, I believe in buyer beware and the truck's good points outweigh the bad so I left it at that. However I'd more than bet that dually there has some hidden bondo and screwy fixes like mine does. Definitely not worth his asking prices.

For the record the duallies do show up on GL every now and then. One showed up earlier this year and you'd have thought it was ****ting kittens the way some of the guys on SS got all excited about it.

He's darn proud of that dually isn't he. For that price I'd go buy another Duramax. I used to see them on Ebay but they are scarce now. Local road department has a couple don't know if they were converted or not. They must have 10 CUCV's.

I'm about 180mi from the base in South Dakota.

15k? haha, I'd go buy a cummins ram

looks like he just sprays everything with paint and calls it good.

sorry too newb it up but im hearin alot about these cucvs here on ck5, im still pretty new too all this stuff. but what is a cucv, and why are they so sought after? is it a dually thing, or a military thing?

I wouldn't even consider that one, since he says clean Utah body. There is no such thing as a clean Utah body, it only takes one storm to show these bodies just how much salt we put down on the road.

h0wl0ngcanitbe - CUCV is a military version of a civilian vehicle. They have heavier duty axles than the same trim level, meaning they will have 14BFF rear, and D60 front in the pickups. They use lower gears from the factory, and come with lower gears as well. The rear end has a Detroit from the factory as well. There are also military Blazers, but I don't believe that they got all the upgrades that the trucks did.

In addition, they are all diesel, with 24 volt and 12 volt systems, which can be a pain to deal with. They are mostly sought after because they will have lower miles than a comparable civilian vehicle, as well as the 4.56 gears, Detroit rear, and D60 front.

...and generally better condition. The troops might manhandle them but they get regular maintenance of a somewhat guided type and don't get day after day after day of regular driving.

why would he swap in 3.73's in the dually? probably took the 4.56's and locker out for himself. in that case, no longer all original and the price should drop down to $2500;):haha:

After thinking about it, he was probly wrong in the gears. Also it would show up in the Dana expert, they list the CUCVs with 4.56s, and never heard of GM using 4.88s. Don't pay any attention to me....
