Guys, I need help. I have a NP 205 transfer case that mates to a 350 trans. I need the input shaft seals. I've gone to autozone, napa, orielys and the chevy dealer. It seems what they say fits, will not fit. The seal they keep giving me is 2.72 inches in diameter. The seal I need is 2.623 OD. I have a 1.5 inch shaft.

Where can I get this seal?

Of course I have no idea as to where the adapter came from. I think it came out of a 78 or 79 chevy blazer with a 350 motor, 350 trans and np205 case. It had the small bearing 27 spline. Which I'm not using.

can u post a pichure of the t-cases i.d. tag on here there is a small chance that the t-case may be an older one or newer one then the truck. have found a time or two that they make small unnotesible changes to the t-case from time to time.

You are looking for the seal inside the adapter, right? there is no input shaft seal on the 205 itself. If you're looking for the seals where the driveshafts connect, those would be (front or rear) output shafts.

That said, try using an '80 K5 for a seal application. That year the 205 was the only t-case used.

then how do you keep atf from getting gear oil in it ?

there is a light duty single seal adaptor and then a hd 2 seal adaptor.

need pics to help you figure out what you got.

The seals in the adapter. There is no seal on the input shaft on the t-case, this terminology could be confusing the parts guy.

Also, since he's looking for a 1.5" shaft seal it almost has to be an output shaft seal needed.

I'll shot a picture soon. It is the seal in the adapter. There are two of them, same size. If you go to Autozone they have the listing as a Transfer case input seal. It fits the 32 spline input shaft I have but is to big to fit the adapter case.

Figure 8 adaptor? I agree with nvrenuf, tell them you have a 1980 K10 with a 350 engine.

EDIT:...

A TH350 doesnt have a 32 spline output, a TH400 does, your info is contradictory...

if i recall when i had one with 2 seals i had to use 203 input seal for the correct fit. try that for a mid 70's with 203 tcase. there was somthin funny about the 2 seal units and the info in the books / computers not being right.

Something else that stands out to me is the 1.5" shaft measurement. Doesn't the floating sleeve used in the 350/205 set up have an o.d. larger than 1.5" ? Seems like it should be closer to 2".

TexasDan, does your adapter use 4 or 6 bolts on the trans side?

Ok, the NP205 I have is a figure 8 pattern, It has the 32 spline input shaft, the trans that I'm mating it to is a 4 wheeldrive 4L80E, (not the original trans), nobody and I mean nobody makes an adapter for this application, AA doesn't, no one does. I had to make one, my company owns a machine shop so I made one. I took the adapter that I had, it fit the Np205 and a 350 trans. I had the adpter for the 4L80E too, I took measurements for both ends that I needed and created my own adapter. This adapter is only 2.5 inches long. I have two different NP205s, one is 32 spline and the other is 27 spline, both are figure 8 pattern.

My last resort is to take the adapter back off the trans and remachine it. I really don't want to have to do this. But the amount of time that I've spent trying to find the seal I could have allready had it machined.

I'll shoot a pic in a minute.

Go to Motion Industries and have them match a seal.

I had found the 205 pages months ago when I was looking for an adapter. AA makes one for the 2 wheel drive version of the 4L80E but not the 4 wheel drive version.

NO ONE makes an adapter for this configuration. Well except me!!!!

Winner for this situation.

edit: to clarify, where did you get the seal o.d. for your adapter? From the th350 adapter or the 4l80e adapter?

Also, post up a pic of your custom adapter. :pimp:

got the seal OD from the 350 adapter. The 4L80E does not have a seal on the adapter.

I see 2 options;

1) go to motion industries w/ seal dims

2) get a seal for a pre '85 th400/205 adapter and machine to fit.

There are two adapters. one has a bearing in it the other does not. I had to go to oriellys. and look thru the seal catalog my self so i know they have them just trying to help there is a round rubber oring type seal on the output of trans that seals the stub.
[with bearing] this is all on a t350

Your probably right. I can have the adapter machined by noon tomorrow.
It just bogoles my mind that GM or any parts house can't find a seal for this.

If you go to my website you can see what I'm making this for. I go into some deals about the project under the build section.
