1984 K5 with 700r and np208. Rear output seal leaking, ordered new seal and it comes with a thin bushing.

Where exactly does bushing go ?

It’s probably the tail shaft bushing….I’ve always just purchased the seal from the parts store..where did you order it from?

Rock auto, timken seal, can get with or without bushing. I know the bushing or sleeve is suppose to help seal / take up slop but not understanding where it goes

Is it the output shaft bushing, #9 in this diagram? I can't remember if you can pull it out with the tailhousing in place or if you pull it and press it out from the inside.

You need to remove the out put shaft housing the replace the bushing. I recommend doing it, if old bush is allowing the slip yoke to wobble from wear the new seal will leak to.

I just did mine. You also have to remove the bearing to get access to push the bushing out. Change it as well, its cheap.

Well, found out the seal between NP208 and 700r is bad, all trans fluid is filling up transfer case. I dropped truck off and trans shop. Truck is 40 years old and 180k , told them to just rebuild both

I may be wrong, but I thought that the 208 shared fluid with the tranny ??

There's a double seal on the T-case input and really no seal on the transmission output (except to the adapter).
