I just went to change the original pads on my chipped and lifted 110,000mi '03 GMC Duramax. Now I drive this thing like a race car. My 35"s last me between 6,000 and 12,000 miles a set. I have chased BMW 650's and newer 911 Porsche's through the best driving roads the Fallbrook/Pala area have to offer and they couldn't shake me. I tow 25% of the time much of the time way too much weight way too fast. Some miles an hour over the speed limit passing all the cars up the steep part of the grapevine is funnier than **** while towing my K5 Blazer. And to top it all off I still have 70% pad left. Anyone else experience this strange characteristic of a Duramax 2500HD?

BTW I love this truck!

I don't think he is, I think hes complimenting the parts lasting so long with his driving characteristics.

Exactly

Anyway driving fast doesn't affect the brakes, but driving like a crazy man, accelerating and braking accelerating and braking constantly will burn the brakes, also if you carry heavy loads and down the grapevines you use the brakes a lot instead of letting it go or using the lower gear in the tranny will burn the brakes otherwise they should be fine.
Sometimes people that are too carefull ie riding the brakes will wear the brakes faster.
I rarely use the brakes myself, I try to rely on everything in driving to spread the effort on every part of the truck so everything will wear evenly.:D

yeah I am complimenting the truck and no I am not driving like an idiot. I never drive in a manner that would put anyone in danger. but I still can't get over the fact the brakes have lasted so long. at this rate I won't have to replace them until 300,000mi or so. that allison tranny's tow/haul mode is amazing

Of course you are trying to complement the durability of the truck.

But:

.. I drive this thing like a race car... chased BMW 650's ... 911 Porsche's ... I tow ... way too much weight way too fast. Some miles an hour over the speed limit ... while towing my K5 Blazer.

Is driving like an idiot:mad: Furthermore when you drive like this you endanger other people on the road. In fact it's called "reckless endangerment" and is criminal.

If you don't agree then step up to the bar. Keep a copy of this thread. Print several copies out and keep them with your proof of insurance in your vehicle. Should you be involved in an accident hand out copies to the others involved.

You've made some very condemning statements on how you sometimes drive. That you do so in Southern CA is even more damning without considering we share the same roads.

I won't go into posting on a public board.
