Duramax outpulls Cummins and Powerstroke!

BlueBlazer have you heard anything about the newer Cats having Turbo trouble? My friend just bought a brand new Peterbilt with the biggest Cat motor he could get, factory twin turbo and another friend is a Diesel Tech(still in school mind you) who says hes heard of a few of those Cats blowing their Turbos.

If I got a Diesel it would be a Cummins 12V. I want one bad. My buddy renewed my love of them. He put a new exhaust on his 95, 5" from just after the turbo back. The work he has done, it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy to see such a fast pickup :)

I know the C12's were having a little bit of trouble.

yeah but its still a chavy, and i kinda think it was in 4hi... you couldn't pay me to drive a new chevy let alone a duramax... im a diesel technician, and i would only own/drive a powerstroke or a cummins... ford builds the best truck, cummins is the best motor if ford used cummins I-6s id get a loan for what ever it costs and buy one today!

new chevy trucks suck.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

I liked the Ford truck, but the 6.0 and its problems turned me away.

I went with the Dodge because I wanted the Cummins an the truck is almost as nice.

my friend who has the Peterbilt also has a 6.0 powered F350. His dad has a 6.0 Excursion. My friend beat the crap out of his, killed the glow plugs(he has to start an 04 pickup with ether), blew the turbo, and did something else. His dad babies his Excursion and has the exact same problems

I am not privy to the warranty claims, but I would bet it is not any more problems than the VGT turbos other companies use have.

RJFguitar,

Care to elaborate on this problem you have seen with C12s? You seem awful sure that there is a problem, yet there is no way you have access to warranty claims nationwide, so you are most likely just speculating, again.

man blueblazer62... ive been working on diesels for a few years now and ive got to say you've got my DREAM JOB!!!!! thats the kind of job id move across the country to get!
its always nice to talk to a few other diesel diehards.

A local trucking company that we do a lot of business with has 70 trucks, most of them with CATs and a majority of those are C12's. The owner of the company has told me, along with my good friend that manages their shop, that they have replaced a lot of turbos on those C12s.

Don't use "again" for fun after accusing me of not knowing what I'm talking about.

Cummins could've been a standard (stalling out)... Ford, let's not forget that the Ford does NOT have a full-locking capability carrier available for it....Chevy does. In the end
Ford Diesel made by Intertrashional
Dodge Diesel made by a leader of on-highway diesels
Chevy Diesel made by both GM and Isuzu (THE largest diesel maker in the world)
Hang around a diesel shop like mine for a day and see what the techs think of Internationals. They keep us in business...

C17 is the latest and greatest with the twin series turbos. You can get that in the new big plastic Pete. Friggin things have three seperate computers in em.

Wow, we make a C17 now? You guys are killing me with your lack of knowledge of Cat product. If you don't know facts, please do not act like you do, thanks.:D

Apparently the VT365 (non-powerstroke 6.0) is a really good engine, the Ford version is the only one that has all of the issues. The Cat C7 is really good, no gay problems like the Cummins, and its nice and reliable.

I had a little "hands on" experience with a Cummins ISB in a Blue Bird school bus over the summer. The engine mounted Bendix air compressor broke the cast aluminum timing gear cover, and the front crank seal also sh*t the bed. It took my dad and I 2 full days to fix this mess, but thats partially because you have to remove a ton of stuff to get to the front of the engine (bumper, grille, aftercooler, radiator, harmonic balancer). I think if the air compressor wasnt mounted up, the Cummins would be a much better engine.
