Duramax Suburban - IFS Rebuild

Noob question here, but why not just look for a '90s diesel sub? It would have to be cheaper. Isn't the 6.5 td enough engine?

A 6.5 is in now way shape or form even in the same ball park of an engine as a duramax.

2 reasons. I wanted something more powerful than a 6.5td, and 10 yrs ago it was hard to find a 92-99 burb with a diesel that was in good shape.

Now, its impossible.

I love that body style, but was willing to go newer to get a dmax.

What's funny is I just bought a 6.5 truck, and there were 2-3 6.5 burbs for every truck option. Opposite of what it was in the bay when I was looking for a burb.

How many miles were on them?

Really, for me to step up from my burb, i wanted to make a HUGE jump in power and towing performance. A 6.5 wasn't going to do that for me.

Anywhere from mid 100s to high 200s.

I agree. The 6.5 will never compare to what a dmax is. And that generation of burb would never equal the model you got. At no turn did you make a bad call.

Dang, I missed this.

I dig man!

So what's the plan with the '91?

91 isn't going anywhere. Ive got too much time into that rig to do anything with it, plus its got a 20k mile crate motor in it.

It will be relieved from a lot of road trip and towing duties, but i plan to keep using it up in truckee, and hope to start wheeling basic stuff a bit more with it.

Meeting him to pick it up tomorrow if all goes well.

I'll be solo, so driving the bmw down, renting a uhaul trailer, and dragging the bmw back with the dmax. if its meant to tow for me, might as well test it out :)

Duramax Suburban - Ordered!

Apparently the truck is having some fuel issues. Not getting it today :-(

Really glad the issues are surfacing before delivery. He sounds pretty confident that this thing probably has a full sun coast trans in it, but that also probably means the motor was tuned. Who knows. Beauty of used.

Hoping it gets worked out and delivered in the next few days.

Aww man. I was hopeful that this update was you popping on before you headed home with it. But still better the issues get sorted out before you pick it up.

It's ok. I mean after years of wanting one and weeks of waiting on the build. What's a few more days to make sure it's all in good working order.

But let's be honest if it was mine id be pissing myself every half hour til I got the call

Yah. Just makes me nervous that it may not be right when I get it. Had he put it on a transport, instead of trying to drive it up, it would be broken down here.

Sounds like progress yesterday. still hoping to see it this week. Really want to drive it this weekend

Would be cool, but probably not. Planning to run 285's, tow mirrors, stereo, and call it good for a ehile
