Duramax Suburban - IFS Rebuild

Now that the deal is done, I don't mind telling numbers.

I paid $19k plus reg and taxes. Including drivetrain, Burb, new rad, trans cooler, and trans lines. He had to replace a few other things, but those were part of the price.

Coolest part is until he found a Burb that met my criteria, I didn't have to commit. Once he found one, I wired half, and we were off to the races. Took about 6 weeks based on his workload.

He's got a salvage title one on eBay right now. Curious to see what it goes for. I'd guess about the same. It was at 18 yesterday, but he may have closed the auction for local sale.

Hay, good thing that lesson wasn't with safety glasses

what the hell hit the trailer?

Thats the back lip. It was a tiny bit bent before, but my guess is the tire started to come apart, and grabbed the fender? :dunno:

Either way, those fenders are tough. Had to use the c channel guide post off the trailer as a beat stick to get it far enough away that I could put the spare on.

Then, for some reason, the backup circuit on the burb's trailer harness doesn't work. So, i had to get a manual lockout on the tongue to get it into the driveway. ALMOST had to use the old burb. That would have been silly

ah that's the back of the fender, tire must have grabbed it.

Reverse lights operate the lockout correct? Don't be surprised if the trailer receptacle on the back of the truck needs to some attention. I've had issues with mine on my 03 and 02 in the past. Be sure to add a dielectric grease to the boat harness as well.

Yep, thats the plan. I tow lots of surge brake trailers that use 7 round or 5 flat plugs. I HATE adapters, so Im putting this on the factory bracket.

Reverse lights on the truck work fine (and are WAY brighter than the old style), so hoping its just a wiring issue at the truck's trailer plug.

that's a slick receptacle and I agree the adapters are just one more thing to go wrong.

I had a similar happening too. Just entering interchange in Denver to head up into the mountains....then I feel a bump. Look in side mirror and see my boat trailer tire rolling towards me at 50 MPH. I slow down, start pulling to side and the tire passes me and cuts in front of me, down a hill and into the freeway median. Unbelievable!

Had some skid wheels added a few months before to protect the driveway from the scraper bar. Took the entire weight of the boat and was able to safely come to rest.

Needless to say, I found a guy with a double axle trailer and he swapped me straight across! Sweet deal and better/safer for hauling. :woot:

Tandems are the only way to go. Mine is a newer torsion axle though, which makes it hard to chain up an axle and keep going on 3. Last night would definitely have been a run on 3 night if I had that option.

For $15, its a no brainer. I'm a big fan of the flat 5, but maybe only cause my round 7 on the 91 was buried behind the bumper.

One of the little changes that makes a big difference to me.

Moved all my tools and stuff into the new rig tonight. Bittersweet for sure. Had a few "I'll still play with you!" heart to heart conversations with the 91.

My husky floor mats came in, and I found the IDENTICAL truck bed mat that I run in the 91 on craigslist for the back. Super durable, cut it to fit perfect.

Now i just need to get rid of these damn 2nd row buckets. Everything slides through the seats....

Packing up to head up to Shasta with the boat tomorrow for a long weekend. This is THE trip I had in mind when i pulled the trigger on this rig, and I'm stoked that it made it here in time to go.

Planning to take it relatively slow, as i'm nervous about my trailer tires now.

Wish me luck!

I'll try and snap a photo. It's just a universal rubber truck bed mat.
