The Allison 1000 is the automatic used behind the DMax in GM pickups. A 4L80E won't last long behind a 600+ lb-ft engine. As for the manuals, I think the NV4500 is probably a bit light. The NV5600 or other similarly rated manual would be better.
the blue crew cab over on dieselplace.com that swapped a duramax has done some work to his and is using it as strictly a sled pulling truck, and he has an nv4500/np205 and havent heard any complaints. Plus the countless cummins trucks out there with chipped etc etc etc engines running around. Maybe the only downside to a nv4500 and power running through it is the 5th gear upgrade. I dont think its such a bad choice, heck if I were going for a simple low budget swap, this would be my choice. It eliminates the need for the body harness and computer, and you can just have a stand alone controller and harness for the engine.
