So I built this 350 a few years ago with a modified TBI, RV cam and Bowtie Vortec heads. It still seemed very tame. So I went to stage 2 with a more aggressive cam(more overlap and tighter LSA, more lift) and FAST FI since my TBI wouldn't play with this cam. It made a lot more power than the stock TBI and I was mostly satisfied. But I always wanted to know what I had. So after moving to Colorado Springs I found a tuner place, called Rocky Mountain Competitive Research, or RMCR for short. They took it in and did some fine tuning and I came out knowing my little 350 was making 327Hp and 415 lb-ft or torque, and it's very off road friendly! They actually took some timing out of it, as we had originally guessed at how much timing it needed. (now I feel better about running 87 octane)
I was very pleased with the whole process, only took 2 hours, they only charged me for 1 hour of dyno time and 1 hour of tech time, total of $315. Very reasonable if you want to find out what your modified engine makes

Those are crankshaft estimates. The rear wheel #'s were 262 HP and 332 lb-ft( on a 2nd graph, not shown)
I'm not bragging about my numbers, just sharing what it did and letting people know how easy(and relatively inexpensive) it is now to get dyno #'s.

You posted the rear wheel #'s. :) (edit...I mean you posted the RW dyno sheet. The posts imply there is a calculated crank sheet.)

So the FAST FI pretty much learns and adjusts to new engine changes like cam? While with stock gm tbi you would have to burn a new chip?

There's actually a dyno in Riverton that I have heard about. J-Team in Casper has one, but I don't know if it runs, you might give him a call? Some guy in Cody supposedly has one. But depending on where you live, it might be more economical to head to Colorado to a shop that does it all the time and is familiar with doing it every day? I was real happy with this guy at RMCR in Colorado Springs, as he didn't waste any time, knew exactly what I needed for timing, etc. Was familiar with my FAST system. Very efficient.

Mileage, anywhere from 11.5 to 15.9 with a tailwind. You know these OBS trucks have the aerodynamics of a brick :)

EBL Flash does the same thing as the FAST FI for a fraction of the cost. It lets you flash in new tunes into a slightly modified stock ECM.

That is cool Wyoming boy! Nice numbers from a SBC. Hope you had better luck with RMCR than my experience with them. Mark that does the actual tuning seems like a straight up guy but the other guy, Mike, that runs the front end operation does a sucktastic job of running the business from a customer service stand point and has the personality of a rock. Forget about ever receiving a returned phone call or email from those guys although his sister that handles the phones is very sweet. You just have to keep calling and calling and calling or just drive by and look at them straight in the eye. I spent a day with Mark a few weeks ago where he did a great job of tuning my cammed 8.1L in my ’89 Suburban for full-throttle wide-open throttle operation but after getting it home the road manors still suck. It hops and jumps when idling through parking lots then they didn’t make any adjustments to the cold start/open loop speed density calibrations where it still has a hunting idle and wants to die until the engine warms up. For the cost of the tune ($575 in my case) and losing a day out of my busy schedule it is a huge hassle to take the trip back up to COS to leave it with him to rework what should have been done the first time. Ah, and I am still waiting on a returned email and phone call to them from 2 weeks ago. They run their business on word of mouth….not so sure I would send them business just yet but they pretty much are the only game around for tuning and hooning.

A dyno is very useful for WOT and all the high load tuning. A lot of those operating regions are tough to get to on the street, much less maintain. Some RPMs at WOT you hardly ever see, but when you do, the tune better be right or you might break the motor.

But basic in vehicle and driving tuning is still required to get the best manners out of it. You either need a guy that spends a lot of time in vehicle or reading your logs or have a tuning tool yourself.

So my dyno story is from my little car. I only paid $110 because it was only about an hour of their time. Not only were the spark and fuel tables about right when I drove in, the session was cut short when the motor blew up. The last pull was actually with a spun crank bearing. Doh!

The V6 did put 300HP and 370TQ to the front wheels, though (as does its replacement that I've put 20,000 miles on so far).

Larry,

I really like your torque curve . If I'd have known what I know now, I would have put a big block in mine from the start ! Something like a ZZ454 .

Yeah Mark is the one who worked on mine and he was nice. It ran fairly well when I took it in, so he just did some fine tuning.

I just saw a tv add yesterday for another dyno ship in the Springs, can't remember their name right now.
Good luck with your project !

Damn I need to do this to my truck to really fine tune the FAST system.

I'll be talking to the tuner that is going to do my '12 Silverado after I install a set of headers on it. :deal:
