ok i need some help on the e-brake cables for this thing too. deal is sf14b 8lug going in a 85' 1/2 ton silverado LWB, axles came from a 3/4 sub. both trucks are 85's. the cables on the 1/2 ton w/ the 10b in had a short cable on the driver side w/ a threaded end for adj. and the pass. side was long and came over to the D side and both met in a braket right off the frame. the cable to the pedal goes up the drivers side. the long cable went through the braket and spliced to the pedal cable. now, the sf14b has equal length cables coming out of the backing plates. oh, one last thing the cables on the 10b were press in to the backing plates and the sf14b ones are bolt in. ok now for the question why would they build a diferent system for the sub and the truck dont they have the same basic chasis? and how can i get the e-brake hooked back up? thanks agian -jusitn

I swear this axle swap is more complicated than the 60/14b swap on my blazer!

Still have the 10 bolt? You may be able to simply swap the cables.

They changed the frame a bit to accomodate the later style that is on your truck, and personally, I think it's better. Otherwise, I think the earlier WILL retrofit, but you'll need all the correct pieces from an older truck.

yes i still have the 10b but as mentioned the 10b cables are press in and the 14b are bolt in at the backing plate. both the axles and truck are 1985. the sub the axles came from was an 85'. thanks for the responce though.

Missed that, sorry, was in a hurry.

Option then is to get the backing plates off a newer 14SF. No idea when they switched, but mine are not bolt in, (axle is supposedly '97) I'm pretty darn sure, but can't look right now. Now that I think about it, it was already in an earlier Chev, so PO must have changed the cables somehow, as they are both equal length cables.

Really odd that yours are both '85 with different cable setups. I thought that was a single year changeover with no overlap.

the truck may be an 86' but i know the burb was an 85'. i could probly buy another rearend for what the plates would cost. around here those axles are cheeeeap noone wants them, but work perfect for what i'm doing. problem would be finding another one w/ 4:10's

The equal-length cables ran up to '82. These had the same length cables that fastened to a small bracket behind the rear spring hanger bracket at the forward mount. At the backing plate, the cables used two bolts, per side, to fasten to the plate.
'83 on up used a cable that ran over to the driver side to fasten to a bracket with the shorter cable. These were push-in types at the backing plates.

I'm betting your 14SF is either an '81 or '82 if it has the same equal length cables.

Take pics of the rearends and the cable mounts on the frames of both trucks. We can determine from there.

oh ok well sounds like i was lied to about the axles then. sounds about par for the coarse considering who they came from. these boys always try to make somthing sound better than it is. most of the time they just end up loooking stupid. they always have what you need though, they just dont relize parts sell them selves if your honest . i'll try to get some pics, but it is just as you described. what do you recomend for fixing the problem? is there a reasonable way to fab somthing to hook'em up? i'll check w/ the local yard and see if i can get some backing plates cheap, but i doubt it. they will just want to sell the whole rear end. i know there is one out there though i saw it today when looking for some u-bolt plates. 88-98 single cab w/ 13" brakes and all.
