Yea looks like June. So besides getting vehicles ready, what's next on the list of " event to do's" or are we gonna just do an informal meet & trail run.

Seems like maybe we need a meet and greet or two, and then we could maybe get a bigger event going. Not trying to compete with the West Coast guys, but it would be something cool for the guys on the south east side of the brotherhood to have something to go too. Adams dune party would also be cool to attend, and I am going to try, but sand isnt what I built my rig for either.

any rig can run on the sand...just some faster than others!
Harlan is about a 12hr tow for me...is this 2-3 days of running trails? What are camping arrangements like...tents, cabins, motels, is somebody hosting this?
I wouldn't want to come that far to run 1 day, not sure if I can make it as I'll be knee deep in the towrig swap at that time probably, and I plan on towing to BB16 as well.

Little less than 7 hrs for me ,but think I got a fast bass rally that weekend got to run some dead dinosaurs through the 300 and air out the Ole Bullet lol. My wife might twist my arm on k5 rally she saw they have zip lines and dirt roads . She doesn't care for hauling ass in a boat any more.

There are two trail heads at Harlan. If I'm going I'm riding for more than a day.
Evarts is closer for me and the only one I have used when going. I saw where the Ultimate Adventure guys used the Putney Trailhead when they went. From what I can remember they Putney also has a garage for repairs but don't quote me on that. I will try and find out soon.

Man, a 12hr tow is what kills my BB16 dreams. Its hard enough affording the vehicle to wheel, let alone the gas to drag it there as well.

And we need to get some of this figured out, I think it will be a blast meeting some folks. And it looks like the camping situation isnt so bad as well.

I got a phone call from for mud this morning asking to post up some details about harlan. Ive been there a number of times (somewhere around a dozen) so I know the place a bit. I can drive there without a GPS at this point and its a 8 hour drive for me lol. I will not be attending, at least not bringing my rig as we will have recently added a family member to our stable by then (no not another goat jullian). All wheeling is off for me for 2016 :(

Ok lets start on the drive into harlan. The trek down 81 is not that bad if your coming in like I do, 81 south. If you get off at exit 1 in Tn which is gate city exit rt 421. its a long windy 30 miles through the mountains. I go this way because I know this way. I would suggest going down a bit to I26 in TN and pick that up to run back over to 421/23. From there its a long slow drive, It may only be 50 miles but its a lot of turns through big stone gap and a climb at penington gap (8 %) for a few miles, then coming back down make sure your trailer brakes work.

Harlan has everything you could need, there is hotels, advance auto, walmart, taco bell, returants, you name it. I would suggest camping in everts which is 8 miles from harlan. There are a few restaurants there in town and a few camp ground. We almost always stay at the north everts campground behind the dairy hut. Its cheap, Like 20 bucks a night with full hookup and showers. The south evert campground is up closer to the train tracks and is closer to the trail head. From the north to the trail head its about 3 miles or so. Putney has a campground to with cabins but there is nothing over there, you will have to ride into harlan for anything you need and the only trails over there many people will not try. those trails are called rodgers ridge and tailgate. There is also black mountain cabin rentals in everts which are ok. Me and the wife stayed there once, but probably never again. All the main trails are on the everts side, if you stay in putney and break in everts you got a long day ahead of you to get back.

From the evarts trail head you have (in order) pinball, waterfall, rail bed, cream puff (forumuds fav), little jagger, lower rock garden and killing time and fish fossil . Just up the ridge is underestimated, your turn and pony hill. Just down from there is crawfords cry and upper damnnation. This is a full day with 4 built rigs and no break downs. your turn alone can take 2 hours. I don't think I've ever seen anyone on underestimated.

If you continue up a bit you can head to middle rock garden, grapevine and up from there is the upper rock garden and can opener. Then you hit the sky line, great place to take pictures. Head over to mason jar or over to the lions den (if you dare). I would be more than willing to tag along and guide and work on peoples rigs if need be. Here is a few pictures over the last decade of me going to harlan.

Lower rock garden, 2008???

Any questions you have I'm more than willing to answer. I would suggest if you have anything less than 1 tons, run the green trails. Its very easy to break at harlan as it takes a lot of throttle and there isn't much crawling involved. Ive broke more parts at harlan than maybe all other parks combined and I've broke them FAST as well.

I have a question. What is that brown slick looking stuff? Will I need to wash my truck before I head home?

For sure more than one day of wheelin. I can see Lion Den taking six trucks half the day to get though. There's a reason I put three days up on the pole.:D
No one is hosting this....Just figured I would get something started for those of us who can't make the trip to BB.
Thanks Jay.....I'll have a open seat for you to ride..........Again!!!!:D

I will be working on the luv most the year next year so I can make a triumphant return in 2017

So how much can you do at Harlan in a rig on 35s and half tons, preferably without destroying anything?

maybe run lower rock garden, maybe there is tons of fire roads to have fun driving around on

Me on lower damnation on 42s, linked and propane that isn't tuned correctly (popping)

rail bed mid ways up. These vids are a few years old so the trails are even harder now.

It's a little over 11 hours for me. I'm definitely interested in going. My truck is only on 35s with one tons. I don't have any lockers at the moment. That's an easy thing to add. Are any of the trails do able with out body damage? I'd like to avoid it if possible.

I hope to have mine up and ready by june. Not sure if Ill have a tow rig or not for it though. its a 500 mile trip one way for me so itll be interesting in the K5 on 43s lol.

That will be a durability test for sure, just to hammer on it and drive it back. I love that idea.

And this place has my vote, probably 6-8hrs away maybe, so its close, seems to have a wide array of stuff to play around on.
