Eastwood rust converter

Does anyone have any experience with Eastwood's rust converter? Or any other converter for that matter? Starting to strip down the jimmy and fix a bunch of rust. I'm looking to use it on the frame and underbody mostly. They recommend knocking off the loose rust, applying the rust converter, then a pre paint cleaner and cover with their rust encapsulator...... After that I want to put some bedliner over the underbody and possible the frame.
 
Skyco's ospho is easily the best converter out there.....
 
Thanks, Ryoken. I'll have to give it a try. I did already order some of the eastwood products to try on one particular area. If it doesn't work, no big loss. It sounds like they both work similarly.

What would you recommend to paint over the ospho with to apply the bedliner to?
 
as with most products, not all converters are created the same... ;)




make sure you neutralize after... try to scuff it as best you can after it dries... I would at least douche a bit of paint on it first.. give the bedliner something to bite into...
 


I don't know if the picture worked, but this is a spot I tested last night. Hit it with a hand wire brush, then hand sanded. Good rust spot next to it for comparison ha.




Used the PRE to clean, then applied the rust converter. Directions say to let sit for 20 mins, apply a second coat, and then let cure for 48 hrs before top coating it.
 
Cool, looks like ospho can be had in small quantities from Ace or Sherwin Williams
 
I used some of the Eastwood rust converter stuff and after I followed the directions I chipped some off and it hadn't done anything. There was new rust forming where I had cleaned and applied it. I don't know if I got a bad batch, so your results may vary.
 
converter only penetrates the surface... if the rust has any moderate depth at all to it, the stuff down low will still be there and can propagate... the black, that any real converter, turns the rust to, is iron tannite...
 
So now that I have the entire interior out of the Jimmy I see 2 maybe 3 spots that need to be cut out and patched....Passenger rocker and two spots just below where the front back seat would be.It looks like the underbody is much worse than inside so I'm going to tackle that first.

Does anyone have any tips on getting in there and getting it down to bare metal? It's an 89 which supposedly had a bad primer.

What's a good product to use to prevent rust formation after grinding?
 
Ive had great luck with Eastwoods Fast Etch converter. But Ryoken definitely has a lot more experience with more products.
