i've run into some older 70's chevys and have seen the old eaton axles. Just wondering what you all know about them. /forums/images/graemlins/ears.gif
I really dont want anything that old just for it being a PITA getting parts and stuff. just curious. /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

they have drop out thirds like a Ford 9 inch and also have a diff cover. pretty strong, but the axleshafts only have 17 splines. there are a few people out there who have swapped 14b internals into these and made them alot stronger.

i'm going to slap a stock eaton h052 under my gmc, the axle came factory with a detroit locker and was dirt cheap.

i have heard it is hard to find new drums for these axles, but there is a disc brake kit available.

Yep, the 14FF axle shafts, detroit locker and disc brake kit will fit the Eatons /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I just bought a whole eaton rear, open 4.10's for $75. now I gotta figure out where to buy a ring & pinion set for it, and how to get my welding stick down into the carrier to freeze up the spiders

Kenny, can you or anyone else get the measurement from axle center to low spot under the diff.? I want to compare to a 14BFF.
Thanks in adavance. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Will my 14FF Gov loc Drop right into the eaton axle if I swap over the axle shafts and R&P, or is it only the detroits that work?

[/ QUOTE ]

I dont think it will work because the carrier is different. You have to keep the Eaton Carrier to put the 14FF detroit into it.
