thought about using one of the eBay universal under dash a/c units in my k5 instead of messing with factory a/c. Anybody got any experience with them?

The k5 is alot of air space. It needs to be well insulated to really make use of the cold air. In my crew cab, vintage air has trouble keeping up if I parked in the sun so im going to further insulate the roof and floor. If it was shaded and cool steel, it did great.
On hot ass 100+ days I would rather have hot air flowing through the cab than about 6" of cold air from the vents.

I'd kick the vent windows on the top open and the fronts down and wing windows maxed out to ventilate my blazer years ago. The ac just didnt really work enough IMO.

Just put the suburban rear unit in the crew and be done with it. It works wonders in my Blazer.

I have the rear air unit out of a square body Sub mounted at the rear on my blazer. It uses the same compressor as the front, just more Freon. You use the dual air aluminum tubing in the engine compartment as the sub and a Sub dash switch. New hoses from engine bay under cab to rear. Then use the rear hoses from the rear unit as the bolt to the floor and connect to new hoses. Hot wire from Sub dash switch and a good ground.

Lake havasu 117* Suburban parked at boat lunch all day 0 shade.
I put Heat Shield window shades in all windows. Front factory, rear addon. Will cool the truck down before the boat is out of water.
Rear a/c makes a huge difference.

Any pics of the rear a/c installed in k5? Feel like i saw that setup being run by someone on here maybe 10yrs ago. Looked pretty slick

It was probable me, as I think i am the only crazy. Unfortunately it is not all together at this time, been redoing the interior. The unit is just hanging loose at this time. I have a Suburban rear head liner that covers most of the Blazer top and then the Subs rear plastic cover covers the unit. The hoses go down the passenger side of rear and bolt to the floor, just like a Sub.

I'll have to look into the rear suburban a/c swap. I was hoping for some better reviews haha and vintage air doesn't make a kit for the art WITH factory air. And I really rather not mess with factory air components. Also this truck will be more of a trail rig, so it will probably never use it in tempa above 100* outside. Just was looking into it for the warmer days on trail with a kid.

Or even maybe run 2 ebay specials, mount one under dash and other behind front seats pointed up? I

I use my factory setup on the trail, with the windows down. Black exterior paint really cooks, of course. We stay comfortable but only been in 98* on the trail.

Ya mine has factory air. Just the linakages and factory switch setup was in bad shape and missing pieces. I found that a cheap summit heater is just as good for heat and if I can get the a/c kit to work. I doubt we will ever be out on the trail when its over 95*. Here's the link this is just one of the first kits I came across idk if it will work in a k5 or fit under dash.

I don't have any of the factory parts left. What was under hood was hacked off and missing. And under/behind dash missing the small stuff. It all went in the trash.

The k5 im working on was used as a parts truck. Swapping everything from my bent frame and beat down body green k5 (6.0/th400/205/203 1 ton) to this one.
