Echobit Problems?

[ QUOTE ]
wouldn't it be easier, cheaper, and faster to just make your own rather than wait months? I'd never wait that long for a prepaid item that I could make at my bench in a couple hours.

I think the whole point in buying it is that not all of us have the materials, equipment, and know-how to custom-fab our own stuff. I think that is kind of the deal with Echobit and other such companies. They sell things because not everyone can make them.

It all depends on if the company is misrepresenting these types of sales. To me, if a company takes an order just to get the revenue in quicker, that's a business ethics issue. As long as the customer knows an item is back ordered before the order is placed, then I see no problems with a company doing this. Because the customer can choose whether to send the money. However, if a customer does not ask about availability that's the customers problem...

Anyway, if the customer in not voluntarily notified, that a part is not currently available, by the business(that knows the part is not available) before the order is placed, that, IMO, is UNETHICAL! /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif

See thats what happened to me. He told me I needed to send the money so he could take them off his store list and that he was making 2 others that next weekend and he would like to make mine at the same time. Well that was 1 month ago and still nothing, no email replies and no answer to PM's from HIS website /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif As of today I have no idea when or even if I will ever get the sliders.

How does that expression go.....?

"If you don't take care of your customers, someone else WILL...!"

I have his first set of sliders on my truck. I worked with him on the design. If I remember right, he had an earlier design with two rails parallel. I wanted easier access to the vehicle (for the wife and other passengers), so he suggested bowing the outside one down. I was worried about traction on the narrow tubes and suggested the step. Next thing you know, the stepped rock slider was born. The pictures on his website are of my set before he shipped them. I will have to get some pictures of them on the truck once I get back in the States. They are awesome for the most part. They don't fit perfectly. Basically the whole thing sits 1-2" too far back, so it leaves a little fender uncovered in the front and sticks slightly into the rear wheelwell. I still have about 5 washers as spacers for one of the bolts on each side. He has probably corrected the design by now. It seems like there are two slightly different variations of the body beams.

For the most part he was a great guy to work with and he answered a lot of my questions over the phone when I was having trouble. He also made me a great deal /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif which I won't discuss in detail /forums/images/graemlins/ignore.gif. I get lots of questions and complements on them. I've even had guys follow me around until I stopped to ask me about them. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

My dilemna now is finding a decent finish that will stay on and keep the rust off. It's proving to be a big problem, even though winter is just starting in Michigan. Any suggestions? Battleship paint?

Anyway, sorry this is slightly off topic, I just wanted to say that he does good work, he just can't keep up with all of the demand and won't bring himself to hire help.
