EGR Delete question

Make sure the fuel lines to the TBI didn't get bent/pinched during all this work, if you removed the TBI, that is.

Yes. I moved the MAP sensor and used the right tools to get it the EGR valve tight. I did not get into it deep enough to touch the fuel lines. I only took off the cover to get at the injectors.

The TBI gasket had never been replaced. 280,000mi on truck. The little I did to the fuel injectors apparently was enough to cause the final disintegration of the gasket. The noise was caused by air being sucked in around the TBI base. New gasket installed and it's quiet again. All issues resolved. This thread is completed. Good day to all.

I am surprised that gasket was original. I have replace hundreds many as warranty repairs. I bet it had been at least once, but 280k is a lot of miles.

I owned this truck for only the last 5 years. I had never replaced it. I supposed the gasket was original, but I may be wrong.
