Eileens 79 Corvette resurrection. It survived 1450miles on Power Tour

Under 2 years. Tags are August 16. He started the swap in California. Moved here for work. Had the car shipped out a couple of months later. Was hit on his motorcycle a year ago and could not work on it anymore.

I know that crank pulley bolt scenario all too well.

Really odd the oil filter was off with used oil in the engine.

Got out the my custom oil priming tool. Because you never start an engine dry.

Oil pump never felt like it was moving oil and I could hear the gears in the pump. Crap. I was really hoping this thing did not need to come out.

A few moments later.

I look over at the bench and see the oil jug. Helps if you pour the oil in the engine before trying to prime it.:doah:

My barn is not warmed up yet. So my brain is a little slow. It is 20 degrees outside. Barn started at 40, is now at 58.

Yep. Could not find my manual oil pressure gauge I use when starting an engine for the first time. Also going to run a momentary on ignition switch. So if something goes wrong here by myself, it works as a dead man's switch.

Spare battery is charging because I forgot last night.

So I ran some errands. Went and helped a friend move some stuff. And now I am sitting at Culver's waiting on my dinner.

Are you going senile? You used to be the second youngest old guy that I knew. Now I'm starting to wonder. :dunno:

GrumpyOldGuy... :pimp:

Tonight's update. If anyone cares.

Did not fire it, but I am close.

Starter tightened and it's wires. Moved them off of the headers. Full of oil and primed. Distributor is in not 180* off like before. New cap, rotor and coil. Spark plugs in and I found the first set I bought right after I finished installing the second set. Used wires off of the 95 5.7l I pulled from a van. Balancer bolt back in and torqued. I have the wiring hooked up to fire the ignition and starter remotely. Just need a fully charged battery and some fuel. Remote oil pressure gauge attached.

So tomorrow should be the day. But I have other work to do in the morning.

Hopefully that thing is not a dud. Would suck for the both of you

Woohoo!

Not a good day today. Only had a couple of hours to work on it. Put the battery in and built a remote dash with the oil pressure gauge, ignition and start switches.
Disconnected all electrical and hooked the remote dash up. Hit the starter switch to see if it would spin over. Nope. Clunk. No joy. Check connections at the battery and starter. And the grounds. All are clean and tight. Try again. Clunk, no rotation. Check battery for load. Is good. Pulled the spark plugs. Tried again. Does not turn over fast but it does. Ran cables from a battery on the floor to the starter. Positive and negative. No change.

Engine turns over easy with a wrench on the converter bolts.

New starter installed. No faster with the plugs out. Put plugs in. No rotation. Now I am getting frustrated.
Pulled a battery out of the semi. Just started the semi yesterday, so I know they are good. Nothing.

I am lost, and that does not happen often.

Is the compression so high in this thing that it will not rotate? Can not imagine that. Compression check tomorrow.

Closed the barn and now I am sitting on the couch typing this.

Maybe try for a compression check in one or two cylinders? I dunno if it's spinning fast enough with the plugs out to be accurate, but might give you an idea if it's really high compression or maybe something else?

That is the plan.
