Start Rant: So I should preface by saying that I HATE electrical stuff... I'm a mechanical engineer by trade and just don't get all of the diagram stuff!! :End Rant

Ok, so here's the situation, I pulled the cab wiring harness from one truck and put it into another. The intent was to keep it simple, I don't have PW's or PL's or AC, so I went with the basic harness I had in the other truck. Well, now that it is finally time to put the thing on the road, I'm fighting with the lights (pretty much all exterior lights). I made sure last night that everything is grounded properly (core support, engine block, cab, and even ran a ground from the frame to the bed). I pulled the gage cluster to replace any bulb that may be suspect and found a free floating wire. The wire is black (but was molded to a white wire) and comes directly out of the headlight switch (if you're looking down through the dash, it is on the right side). Does anyone know where this should go? I'm assuming it is a ground wire, but I'm not 100% sure so I thought I'd ask. I also plan on replacing ALL bulbs on the truck, because they are cheap and I don't want to chase them.

Any other suggestions? I've gone through the wiring harnesses and didn't really find any other major issues. My main concern lies within the cab wiring... especially when it comes to which wires need grounded and which wires don't. I can take a picture sometime this weekend if that helps!

Thanks, Luke

You need to get over the mental block you have with wiring/diagrams and go find one. If you're a mech engineer, you aren't stupid, so go learn diagrams. You could find the solution to your problem in minutes. All you need is the diagram and a multi-meter.

Are the two trucks the same? Also did you use the same fuse block that was in the good truck, and the harness out of the parts truck? Some fuse blocks and harnesses don't match

The cab is an 84' M1008 but ALL wiring was pulled from the 85' cab and placed into the 84' cab (everything - from the fuseblock to all wires).

Thanks for the wire diagram, I agree that I should get over my "fear" of interpretting wiring schematics. I guess you have to start somewhere, so I might as well try here...
