electronic speedo to mechanical speedo

i was just thinking since it was already there. ok how do i go about it?

Electronic speedo cluster ('90-91, common, all burbs/K5's/crews/cab-chassis) DRAC from same vehicle, wiring from same vehicle. Power the DRAC, power the cluster correctly, done.

This of course assumes stock cluster. You would only really need the stock speedometer/housing I suppose, (for mounting and wiring, although you could probably solder the wires to the speedo connector) the eletric speedo is "standalone" from the other gauges, other than power and ground, which of course is simple to handle.

Sure simplifies speedo correction for tire/gear changes.

If you are using the stock cluster, the newer ones are arranged better, but have absolutely no provision for the factory tach small fuel gauge. The casting is entirely different in that location, and would require a lot of modification to get to work. Only real catch IMO, IF using the stock cluster.

You will do a fair amount of repinning of the cluster connector, but if you don't mind doing that and the small bit of figuring out what wire does what on your truck instrument panel connector now, it will indeed be easy, just a bit time consuming. Other than the speedo and clock, no functions really changed.

Oh, and the 4WD indicator light is also not a separate harness on the '90-91 clusters either, if that's important to you.

I never looked at the one I have, I agree, probably would have been handy for the CS swap lol.

Their voltage regulation is better, but from the charts I've seen, their output is pretty similar to a 94 amp 12SI. The CS144 puts out a lot more power at a lower RPM than either of those.

Yes, check the threads. Someone just posted the output chart, but there is a lot of info on the CS swaps.

Big difference on mine that I noticed is that when I go to roll the window down or up, voltage stays constant. With the 12SI, voltage would draw down about as bad as when the starter is cranking the engine over.

If I had a lot of electrical load at idle, a 144 would be the clear choice.

Not off the top of my head, but I believe the Pontiac Transport is given as a good donor to ask for the alternator from.

It's somewhere here in the forum, but I'd be surprised if someone doesn't already have the part number/application and responds. :)
