electronic transfer case question

Ok my uncle has a '98 Chevy 3/4 ton. It has the push button 4wd and he was having problems with it popping real loud when it kicked in. He just bought a used transfer and now when he pushes the 4hi button it just clicks (kinda made me think of a relay under the dash) and the light flashes.

Wonderin if maybe they had alot of problems with these transfers. Myself i don't like them but any ideas will help.
