You are correct /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif (at least from the factory), but many "techs" replaced the gear oil with ATF as they figured if that is what the factory changed to, they should too. My 80 was that way when I bought it (filled with ATF), and after a complete rebuild, I switched to 90 weight.
It doesn't mean that the seals weren't leaking (as after this many years they probably are). You should check the drivesleeve for grooves cut into it by the old seals and replace if necessary (under $100), as well as the seals in the adapter, and O-ring seal around the tranny output housing. It might cost a little $, but taking the 205 back out again would suck too. Plus if you get another 23 years out of the seals it is a cheap investment. Either way I would refill with 90 weight.
