In the past 7 years I took my bone stock 85 K10 with a 4-barrel 305 and removed everything under the hood. I'm now running a 350 with an edelbrock manifold and 600 square bore carb with headers and dual exhaust.

So here is my question. What could I do to get my truck emissions friendly again. I still have my smog pump buired in my shop somewhere.

This is what I was thinking of doing. I'd start with my dual exhaust with glasspacks and replace it. I'd run 2.25 pipe from headers into a Y pipe behind the transferer case, then into a 3" magnaflow cat and into a 3" 50 series flowmaster muffler and a single 3" tail pipe.

Also would I be able to weld on AIR inlits on to my long tube headers and use pieces from my old manifolds to hook up my smog pump? Would I need to reinstall an EGR valve. The edelbrock manifold i'm using has a place for one that is just blocked off now.

Thanks

Each state is different, but i believe WA is "49 state" or "Fed".
The Chilton repair manual for your K10 will have all the Emission diagrams. It takes a bit of study, but I just passed mine; CA K10 1985 with the Edelbrock 3701 (?) EGR manifold and stock exhaust. I have a TH350 instead of the 700R4, so I selected an emission diagram alternate, which probably applied to stick shift, no torque convertor lock-up.
Well shoot, give me an hour and I'll look it up.:wink1:

I never removed my system , just deleted some hoses and switches I don't need ( temps are consistant here ) .

I would assume on the 85 , you'd have a.i.r , egr , a vacuum can , and originally an ESC system to retard timing . ( its a 305 , most had 9.2:1 compression ) .

A.I.R and EGR won't hurt performance , and a vacuum can just routes fumes back to the tank .

I can get some decent pictures of mine if you want . Unless your state wants the ported switches on there . I pass easily in AZ .

ditto, and EFE - temp-controlled vacuum switch to block off pass.exhaust and route exhaust thru the x-over passage in the intake during warmup...

I have Edelbrock TES headers - they have an AIR manifold with an inlet in each header tube, and the air from the smog pump is fed thru a 1/2"MPT inlet that accepts the stock air line and one-way valve.

Probably yes.

Well I'm moving to Nevada, but I might try to get my truck to pass WA emissions before I leave. It has been sitting my driveway since february and I could use it now. Next time I'm at my dads shop I'll have to grab my chiltons, I left it there.

I'm running a Edelbrock 1406 600cfm carb. They say they are not emissions legal. What is the difference between the ones that are?

I included a picture of my carb and intake.
I will have to go look at my old 305 in my dads shop, it still has the intake and I think it has the EGR on it.

I know hooking the smog pump back up will be easy. I still have the brackets and the belt, plus all the tubing and pieces. I'm worried about the EGR with my carb/intake combo.

Oh also my 350 is 10.5:1 compression, will that make things difficult? it has a decent cam, not too radical at all. I dont know what it is for sure but its probably close to an RV cam

The manifold you posted a pic of does not have an EGR port that is blocked off, that is for a manual heat riser choke.

if they give you a visual inspection, that's tricky, but actual sniffer is easy. 1 gallon of e85 for every 3 gallons of normal pump gas (10% ethanol, here in texas). mine passed that way with no egr or smog pump and running nasty rich.

Yeah if its just sniffer not visual its a breeze just retard the timing a lot like to 0 or more and it will help tons, have no power but will burn cleaner.

Your Washington smog certificate will be no good in Nevada. Might as well wait till you move. Where are you moving to in Nevada? You only need smog tests in Washoe (Reno area) and Clark (Las vegas) counties. The rest on the state is exempt. Nevada uses a sniffer and does low (Idle) and high speed (2500 rpm) tests. You might not pass the 2500 rpm test with no EGR.

Most likely when I first move in a few months I'll been Washoe county. My wifes work is close to the Reno Airport so we will look for something on the southend of town. If when we buy a place I want to be closer to Carson City.

I remembered after posting those pics that was for the heat riser and not egr.
Would I be able to run an EGR with my current setup, or should I dig up my quadrajet?
