Engine bearing job turns into complete disaster

This is inexperienced, 17 year old kid, type quality of work. Either they forgot the oil pump drive, like stated above, or they knocked the oil pickup off the pump.

I'd at least show up with a trailer, with some bigger friends, and retrieve my truck.

Oil pumps do not lose prime
Nor are engine builders are not at fault for an issue after 135K miles.

even after you get it back and it runs o.k. what is your plans for a new engine ?

cause i know i dam sure would NEVER trust this engine again until it was torn down and rebuilt at the bar minimum . . . but at this point a new crate engine is cheeper and faster and more power than stock ever was back then .

Yep looking at new engines right now. Aluminum heads / maybe roller cam nothing wild just anything to get better performance now at elevation and still keep low end torque. Want to stay pre 86 block.

$1850.00 shipped for a brand new gm L31 vortec 4 bolt main then get a electric fuel pump / carb intake / 3/8" pipe thread to 1/2" barb fitting and 1/2" nipple on water pump for bypass hose like a bbc engine and she will drop in and be 280hp / roller cam / better heads and run good . mine is doing fine in my k30 .

Sweets, check your prices. L31s have climbed over 2k now. What you paid a few years isn't current. Also they are not 280hp. They are 250hp.

I'd do the L31 crate, stab in the ramjet/HT383 cam I showed you beags, then enjoy a strong, reliable SBC.

The cam is the 14077395 GM roller.

I'm not to say either. However, that L31, at least IMO is probably one of the best bang for the buck options going right now.

All depends what OP wants from his truck.
He mentioned aluminum heads, possible roller cam and better low-end torque for elevation. All that equals an over 300 horsepower 383 in my book. Not a stock engine.

That is the engine I would have liked to put into my square body crew cab, but because I have to have an EGR to pass emissions I had to go with the crummy Original Equipment TBI swirl port headed engine.

You may want to print this whole thread out as evidence to give to the BAR.

Colorado does not have a BAR like California does.

There is the Colorado motor vehicle repair act that is the only regulation over the auto repair facilities within the state. There is no regulatory agency to go to like the California BAR, instead you will need to bring it to a local district attorney to file charges.

Sorry I thought the BAR was federal. Guess it's just one thing California got right.

plus if he goes the 383 route, now your adding in the cost of a new balancer and flywheel and torque converter, installing headers if he doesn't have them already,, to make full use of the higher rpm range of the cam etc..

best bet at this point is stick with the L31...

The op is the one that said he was thinking more power, Al heads, roller cam.... I just told him how to do it.
