Engine Condition?

If it tests ok and isn't leaking oil yet, I'd only put new valve cover gaskets and a new pan gasket on. No way I'd get into pulling the heads etc. From the date code on that motor, and amount of time you've had the truck, it realistically can't have many miles. Why ask for other headaches at this point?
My '76 camaro had an orange motor, my '77 and '78 had blue motors, so I believe at least in the cars the changeover in color was 1977.

The leak down test revealed that every cylinder is in the green range and under 20%

The leaking noise that I could hear was all coming out of the oil galleries...not the exhaust or the intake...that sound good??? :dunno:

Now if I can just figure out TDC and what number cylinder and readjust the valves......

What I do is turn the engine over at the crank until the I and E lifters for any given cylinder are on the base circle of the cam. This is as low as the lifter will go in the bore, not lifted by the lobe at all. I then tighten the the rocker adjusting nut until you start to fell the slightest amount of drag, this is zero lash. Then go another half turn.

This procedure has always worked well for me, others will have different ways. The beauty of the hydraulic cam is that it doesnt have to be perfect to still work correctly.

Yeah I usually go with a quarter turn past, some like to run at zero, but I feel sometimes it's not enough, problem is when I went with half a turn, a couple of times I ended up with open valves, so I had to go back 1/4 turn.

Ya know that sounds better than a half turn.

Its been a few years since Ive had to do that.

Got the valves adjusted...wasn't that bad once I figured out what to do...

That valve that looked like it had oil on it....it was adjusted just a smidge too tight...not much, but probably enough to allow so small seeping...I backed it off and adjusted it proper..

I will do the leak test once more to double check after the adjustments.
