i have a 350 that has sat for not very long maybe a couple of months, covered up and no oil in it. i have just re-sealed it and was about to pre-oil it and i was wondering, what else should i do to make sure it ok to go before i put it in the truck and run it? i dont want to burn up a bearing or forget to lube something.

I would button it up and install it.
Preoiling not really needed if all ya did was reseal it.

Fill the oil filter before installing it, it will build pressure before the carb sees fuel and it fires.

i just wanted to make sure with it sitting for so long without oil in it, that on the initial start up there wouldnt be any metal on metal contact, i.e. the lobes on the cam against the lifters or the pistons in the cylinders and so on. when i finish up my heads im putting some moly engine grease on the rods but thats all i know to do.

You can get a gizmo to sit in place of the distributor that spins the oil pump -- you hook it to a drill -- which should lube most everything in there. I did this to mine after a rebuild, on the advice of the machinist ... but, umm, ask him ("4x4HIGH" here.)

ya i had planned on that but was just checking to make sure i hadnt forgot anything else. 4X4HIGH where are you, your usually the first one to chime in on my questions and are always 100% right im kinda dissapointed i havent heard from you yet:(:wink1:

I start my rig every 2 months or so. I don't pull the dizzy and prime it.

Ya just resealed it.
There will more than enough oil film on the bearing surfaces until it picks up oil pressure.

Now that I think about it I never pre oil an engine.
I just assemble it it with lubriplate, fill it full of oil and hit the start button.

Vrooom vroom.

Since this is probably the engine I sold you FYI it sat for close to one year, but it was pre oiled using the gizmo on the oil pump before I played with it then sat.

ah ok i didnt know how long it sat i took a guess at a couple of months but if it was pre oiled over a year ago i may do it again just to be safe. oh and it coming along great by the way, about a week more and it should be complete and i will post pics.

Id be safe and use the oil primer, never hurts and you know its oiled good, least thats what id do. just my .02
