I've tried everything that I've read here, power and ground to battery, hood ground straps, short ground, and none of it has worked. It's in my crew cab with the stock 63a alternator and dual yellow top optimas wired together, and HEI dist. Any other suggestions? I have good grounds from body to frame and engine. The positives are hooked together on the batteries, but the grounds are run to the engine block and to the frame from each battery. The radio is a Uniden 40ch Wal-Mart cb.

Buy a noise filter for stereos. Should be able to get one at Wal-Mart or RadioShack. Put it in the power line and ground the spare lead (to eliminate the noise) to the body separately from the radio ground. Took alot of noise out of mine, but you'll still have some, it's inherent with gasoline vehicles that there is some noise. Your antenna could also be the cause, have you tried screwing the antenna coax off the radio with the engine running to see if the noise goes away?

Yeah, I tried unscrewing the coax and the noise volume cut in half. It still has the same noise, just not as loud. Now, what do I need to do about that? The antenna is mounted to the body with one of those big mounts that has one big hole and three small ones around it. Here's a link to the one I have. http://www.www.premiere-electronics.net/store/jbc993.html

That's a good question, I'm still working on that myself. I've improved my mount, it's grounding, and added the proper length to my 102" whip to make it 108" (true tuned length) and it's helped on mine. I usually have between 2 and 3 "bars" (cheap CB with 5 LED indicators instead of meter) of noise at highway speeds. Always a minimum of 2 at an idle.

Noise gets into the radio in two ways, 1) through the antenna because your ignition system is radiating or 2) through the power supply wires because the ignition or alternator spikes (whine) are being conducted along with the 12 volt current. All the filters on earth won't fix situation #1. To check whether you have situation 1) or 2) , install the radio in the truck but unhook the red wire to the radio and power it from a 12 volt motorcycle battery (or some other 12 battery good for 2 amps or so). The negative terminal of the motorcycle battery should be conneced to the radio chassis. If the noise in the radio receiver goes away when you power the radio this way, keep working on the power wires (bya bigger filter) If the noise stays the same, it is coming through the antenna and you need to clean up the ignition system (get high resistance wires, resistor plugs etc).
