I kind of like the looks of this one. I'm not seeing who the manufacturer is though.

They are selling that as an house brand. Probably a blueprint engine or another mass production rebuilder. I might stay away from that one myself.I kind of like the looks of this one. I'm not seeing who the manufacturer is though.

They might not be able to tell you. Confidentiality between the two companies.Jegs has someone build them for them. You'd probably have to call and ask

I read all those ATK reviews, then purchased from GM@sweetk30 got this L31: https://www.ebay.com/itm/GM-OEM-NEW...296304?hash=item4636cfc330:g:c3kAAOSw1UdcvxpQ
He can chime in with his satisfaction (I just remember him posting about it)
Other reviews on Jegs have their reman'd engines as being made by ATK. Check these lower star reviews, would make me hesitant to buy one: https://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS/059/0282/10002/-1

ColbyGreat to see you back!
I did the exact replacement gm crate. It has been fine. There was a high output version that I should have stepped up to. It has been about 5 yrs, but mine was $2k shipped if I remember correctly.
my L31 is running just fine . she used 1/2 a qrt in the first 500 miles of break in for oil . i even used break in oil from brad penn with the high levels of the good stuff .
now i have 3-4k miles on it and am using it as a work truck like a k30 should be used she is working good . had to add a little oil again but nothing crazy . i figure its just the engine sealing up .
Hey Colby, welcome back.
I will put this out there:
I vote for the L31, but I suggest you actually get the induction system from a junkyard and run it like it was supposed to be factory.
I have it in my 97 van and the power, driveability and fuel mileage is worth it.
And it's a bolt in, you just need to get the intake and ecm/wiring sourced and setup.
Gets you close to LS territory without the hassle of changing everything, and you get a crate engine.
Congrats on the kid by the way, I got 2 boys in the meantime, 2 and 3

Hows your trans in this truck? Only reason i ask, is that if it's still the 700r4, and it's been sitting, you may run into issues.
I know you want to keep things simple, but if you end up needing motor AND trans, a combo LS type swap might put you miles ahead....
If that is the same engine I bought a couple of years ago that engine went way up in price. I bought a brand new GM Goodwrench crate engine with the same specs for about $1600 a couple of years ago. Here is another link to basiclly the same brand new crate engine.

The L31 was the first generation vortec engine so it is a mpfi, which gets smoother better power in original configuration. What was involved in your swap?
Congrats to you, too, on the children! What's the story on setting up a different ECM?
It is a 700r4, but it's only got about 25K miles on it. I dream of swapping back to an SM465 transmission at some point. I thought that was a really fun transmission to drive. I used it with my 6.2L diesel, and I've driven one behind a TBI350 too. But I digress...
