engine stand

any one got plans or a drawing for a engine stand?
Or any other useful welding projects, Im in collage for welding and were aloud to make our own projects. Just looking for some ideas

Yea, copy the ones that are shaped L! rather than like a T for the base. then you can build a pan that sits on the rails to collect the drips.

I Dont think i get what your saying. I was plan on building one like the picture but with a pipe for the vertical section so i can a put a small piece of pipe that will slide over it and weld a tray for laying tools and parts and so that way its adjustable And maybe rig it up so its detachable so i can rotate the motor. I got schedule 80 2 inch pipe i think will be strong enough for the verticle section and i will get some 2 inch square stock to make the bottom.

What he means is build one like this, and put a pan across the two legs. If you build a srontg enough pan it also makes a handy cart for transmissions, tranfer cases, and other heavy parts.

the U-shaped base is a lot more stable than a T, also. 3-point stands tip much easier. having your engine slam onto the concrete would blow.

how about making the legs where they can fold up for storage? extra credit. that feature is what makes my hoist a convenience, not an annoyance.

To bad ur in Canada, eh. The AC units they put on warehouses here had door panels that fit perfect. But you proly don't have AC up there...

yeah that sucks about the ac panels maybe i can just make mine out of snow Some sheet metal with the sides folded up should work then weld the corners together. The more i weld in school the more marks i will get and better practice, So im all out for fabing up my oh stuff. What about if i made the bottom completly square to add more weight to the other side ? And i think i am for sure make that adjustble shelf on it

Make one like and I, over exagerrated into an H, mount the mounting bracket permanent, then you can have something to start the engine on. Not being able to rotate it makes it a pain to bolt in the crank, but after it's all together, you can fire it up and tune it out of the truck. Then it's just a drop and drive. I prefer that over getting angry while crouched in the engine bay.

How do you keep your engine stand from rusting in the pool like that?

Of course we A/C otherwise our igloos would melt in the summer.
