My 350 is warn out and I have a good pontiac 307. Will a 88 Pontiac 307 fit my 77 gmc with a sm465?

Thanks

Maybe a bell housing mod. I can weld aluminum

I was not aware that Pontiac made a 307 in 1988. Surprised me.

You'd never get the BH correct without a mill and a lot of time. Not worth it. Look on craigslist and buy a used 350.

I don't think there is a "pontiac" engine made in the year 1988.

Its an 88 safari. Just Googled it has a olds 307/th200r4. Tranny lost reverse but runs great. Solid car not sure what i'm going to do with it.

So someone wasted time swapping a V8 olds in a mini van? It is a waste of time but it will fit if you do a crap load of work.

Didn't need another project. Just let it sit for know maybe i'll run into a good th200r4

I almost kept my 200r4 from my 86 cutlass olds which also had the carbed 307 v8, but I ended up taking the whole thing to PNP and got a couple hundred dollars for it.

It can be done...buy a adapter from Jegs or Summit to allow the Olds block to bolt to your chevy bellhousing (same adapter a Caddy engine would need, about 75 bucks),and you'd have to fab up some plates for the motor mounts to bolt too, they wont land in the same spot on the crossmember as the chevy ones, but aren't hard to adapt..if you could find a chevy pickup with the dreaded 350 olds diesel, those mounts would allow it to bolt right up..(thats why so many that blew back in the 80's got Olds 350 or 455's installed into them)..
I dont know if the oil pan would be a problem or not,if its rear sump I'd say no,seeing they worked on the diesel 350's that had the same block..

That said, the Olds 307 is kind of a turd,I wouldn't bother trying to use it-one in good running condition is still pretty lame and underpowered..in a heavy truck chassis anyway..might be fine in a light car or an El-Camino..
I considered using one I was offered for free in my 79 C-10,but decided to go with a 305 from a van instead..it was hard enough swapping that into it in place of a 250 six..

Anything can be swapped with enough time and money, but for that engine the cost-benefit analysis really doesn't add up, seeing as how good-running 350s are widely available for a few hundred dollars. You could probably easily get that by selling the 307 to someone who needs/wants it.

If you really want to do it to have something unique, go for it, but I think you'll be disappointed in how it performs in a truck.
