So, I may have in my possession soon a 2003 GMC Yukon with a 5.3 Vortec. It was rolled in Idaho when my brothers in-laws were travelling up this way for New Years. It has been well maintained and under 100k miles. I also have in my possession an 81 GMC Jimmy, with a dead 350. I wonder, what would it take to get the 5.3 into the Jimmy? It would be nice to have the auto (dad wants that:rolleyes:)

Another question: If I use the auto, can it mate to the NP208 already in the old Jimmy? I know that the old stuff is all passenger side drop t-cases, and the new stuff is all drivers-side stuff, and I'm not too interested in swapping axles.

I'm all ears brothers:ears:

Doesn't seem to be too hard, for a motor swap. I've seen more intensive spark plug changes in some foreign jobs. That article is a trove of info, thanks.:waytogo:

???

I'm not sure if I would do it. Trust me I've thought about it before but it will take a lot of work. You need to make sure you get every piece of wire that has to do with the engine and computer from your donor.

Lots of cheap kits out there to convert over. I'd capitalize on the offer, especially if you have a little mechanical 'know how'.

I'd take you ecm to someone like Howell or Speartech and have them void the securities set your tire size and your gear ratio.
