Will the JEGS GM Performance 10067353K2 - GM Goodwrench 350 Engine & Packages - 1973-1985 fit directly in my 89 GMC Jimmy? Anything special i will need or need to change?
 
In a word, and assuming your 89 is stock under the hood, no. That engine is for carbed applications, and has a few differences from the engine you have. Most importantly in the intake area. It is also most likely using a cam that isn't going to be friendly to the TBI in your Jimmy. There are other options for your year like #12520270 which should bolt right in.
 
I want a little more power and this engine package has the carb and intake included in with the engine....i would be doing away with the TBI. I guess what i am asking is will the engine fit the mounts, transmission, and will i be able to keep the serpentine belt setup, i will be going with headers as far as exhaust is concerned. I am actually torn about doing away with the TBI....trying to stay as cheap as i can though....would not be doing a swap but the engine has a bad knock....and this would be a new GM crate long block with the packaged added by JEGS, thanks for the reply lectric80
 
just a fyi most guys swap in tbi injection.

i would not wana toss tbi and go carb my self. unless i had a massive hp motor going in.

if you search and read up a little here there is a few basic mods that can be done to tbi and get you mre power and still keep the tbi.
 
It would fit the mounts, but you will need a new flywheel, and you can use the serp setup without issue I believe.

If it were me, that one I posted has more power than stock, will work with TBI, and is less cost than the one you are looking at. Combine that with needing the flex plate, a pressure regulator to work with the in-tank electric fuel pump, and the other little misc. things you would need, and you will be $$$ ahead by not swapping to a carbed older style engine.
 
I can't say for certain on the 383, there are two available. One is for carbed setups and is called the HT383 while the second is for injected setups and is called the HT383E. It appears to have center bolt valve covers and could be a one piece rear main, but I don't know for sure that the intake is the same.

The second one you list shows it is for carbed applications. It has perimeter bolt valve covers and most likely the 2 piece rear main, so it is not a bolt in for TBI engines.
 
Thanks for all the replys....I think I will go back with the direct replacement # 12520270 to stay in buget. To swap to anything else will go out of my range.
Some aftermarket items are available to gain some HP on the stock engine that I can do at a later date. Thanks again!
 
And, since I didn't say it yesterday, welcome to CK5.

Personally on a budget I think you are making the right choice in sticking with what works for now. You can increase the power numbers on a TBI a bit, and most of the stuff is going to be pretty inexpensive.
 
Didn't GM have a TBI replacement engine that had a little extra power over stock? Been quite a while since I looked at replacement gas engines.
 
The one I gave him was a bit more power than stock, around 240 HP.

Jeff that might work for somebody on a TBI, may even be a direct bolt in.
 
Thanks for the replys....i am going with the 12520270....it will help me stay in buget and is a direct replacement. I have a few options for adding a little power later but not much.
 
12520270 I think this motor is less in HP then the one shipped factory. 190 vs 195 or 210.

Either way, it's a good replacement motor. I installed 2 of them through out the years.

The HT383 and HT383E are identical except for a crank trigger, water pump, manifold and or distributor.
