Epic alaska road trip part 1

Update. And I am off again!

So I put the k5 in a storage unit. We were adjusting timing on the engine

with the new carb and the timing chain went. The dizzy stopped spinning

when I turned the engine over. I dident even bother too open it up. So I

had my insurance money foot the bill for towing the truck to a storage

container. I am either going to fly down at a later date and cut off parts

and scrap the rest or I am going to have it shipped.

So I started driving this instead:

So far I am getting about 26 mpg @ 75 mph. Cruise control is nice, that car

is built for comfort. I can even monitor tire pressure, fluid temps and

pressure on the digital display. Not bad for a 11 year old car.

I started on the 1st at 4 pm. Stopped in Huntsville AL the first night. Next

night was northern IA. Last night was Saskatchewan. Tonight I am in Fox

river Alberta staying at the "rob me at night motel". LOL. I have the door

barricaded. I have not bothered to take any pictures as of yet because all I

have seen are boring farmlands and plains in both the US and the Canadian

sides.. I went to the Eagle River casino with 5 bucks in my pocket and

walked out with 350 so that was cool. This time I was not molested by the

border dudes. I have about 1600 miles to go and it is 11:30 local time.

I am not so sure that I would have reccomended Fox Creek as a great place to stop haha! Thats a work camp town. Lots of oil, gas and forestry going on there. Edmonton would have been far cheaper and much safer to stay in.

I imagine you're probably there by now?

updates.

Yeah. I made it. I have not had a chance to setup my computer yet. I took a lot of pictures and videos. My new house is a total disaster but its coming along.

The last night I stopped in watson lake. From there it was whitehorse then the border. We a finally bought a house in the town of north pole ak. The place where kids send letters to santa clause. 1/4 from my house. Will upload things soon. Thanks for the offer guys on places to stay.

Congratulations, good luck with the new house and life in AK. As I'm reading this my 4 year old son asks me what I'm looking at and when I tell him what is going on he got all kinds of excited and told, I repeat TOLD me, to ask you to look for his elf "Shorty" who lives at the North Pole with Santa. (It is one of those "Elf on a Shelf" guys that you buy your kids to keep them in line for at least one month out of the year, lol.) Anyway, sorry for rambling and looking forward to some pics of your trip.

Well right now I am working on some video editing. Half of my footage is upside down...oops! I have about 40 minutes. Other than the road noise and the occasional song on my wife's iPod there was not much to listen to so I cut out the sound. Oh the speedo is set to kph btw. Video shortly.

Well it's sitting in storage ATM. I am probably going to get a round trip ticket in

the future and strip it of the expensive parts (Dana 60, Softopper, hydro assist,

etc...) and ship them to me. Or ship the whole thing. There are a thousand

square bodies up here on CL everyday. The body is beat to hell on it anyway.

Right now I cannot afford to do much so it will remain there until I have the

funds. I offered to sell it to a buddy for 5k and he declined.

Beat to hell but it came from Nevada. I remember how straight and clean it was when Thunder had it.

Bet you could sell the body. In the salt/winter belt guys will pay good money for a good body, beat or not. A rusty ass body doesn't do much good even for an offroad rig.

Yeah the k5 has mainly cosmetic body damage really, nothing affecting it's function. Well that and the engine needs to be fixed. Probably cost 4k to ship it. Crating the parts that I want off of it would be less I think.
