EST and ESC diagnostics for TBI

I know on my truck the purple and yellow wires were just spliced together by the previous owner. But the PROM on mine is set up for a manual, so it doesn't really matter in my case anyways.

Good idea to talk to Brian, he deals with this stuff day in and day out, much of it I've not had to deal with in years. :)

I sent the datalog to Brian and it looks like it's just running too lean due to fuel pressure.

I'm off to look for the best way to increase it.

You could have posted data here for us to look at?

What is your fuel presure?

If your going to pay $200. for a chip he can richen it up?

Here's the log. It is seeing some knocks as well.

I ordered a fuel pressure guage and tester to see where that's at before getting any chip mods done.

I'll admit I don't know how to read these logs, but it kinda looks like the knock count is "4" even before the engine has started. Looking at line 5 , the RPM is zero, but the knock count is already 4.

Knock counts are 4 throughout the log so not sure what that means.

I'm fairly familar with TBI injection but new to burning chips from data. Next time don't record raw data and do record BLM tables.

The BLM does show lean but not horrible.

Hook up the laptop and WinALDL again and look at TPS. With engine running is it .54 volts?

You are showing speed but I thought you had no VSS?

I've got the VSS now hooked up now, but the P/N wire is disconnected. In the searching I did, that ECM wire is supposed to be grounded whenever the vehicle is in Park. Without VSS, the various sites I found recommend hooking the wires together to make the ECM think it's in Park all the time. Is that accurate?

I can do another datalog tonight.

Edit: Here's the BLM log from the same run. Is that any easier to read? Am I right to believe that the numbers should be closer to 128?

Well if you have VSS then from what you have researched the P/N wire should not be grounded. Correct?

Yes 128 is optimum, lower is rich, higher is lean, but you'll never get a car to record 128 always. If the weather changes then so do the BLM. A little rich is better than a little lean. Your's is up to 140 ish sometimes which isn't that bad. I think they top out at 175 which would be bad...

Still interested in your TPS reading. At idle the log says 1.7 but I don't think recorded data in WinALDL is a voltage reading... I forget...

This thread is kind of long winded... what exactly is your issue now other than a little lean?

I consistantly get a knock signal error and I think it's accurate. I *think* can hear it pinging. I also get a stumble at low throttle once in a while. I think both of these could be caused by a lean mixture or ow fuel pressure right? I'm about to drive several thousand miles so I'd like to make sure it's running efficiently for both engine longetivity and gas mileage reasons.

Correct.
