friend of mine was telling me there was a few years (newer) where they made a 3/4ton axle with a 6 lug wheel? really? i know you can swap out rotors on the dana 60's and 14bolts but... unless when he says 3/4ton he means a 12bolt?

i guess another question should be ...are both 3/4ton and 1ton axles both 14bolts? thnx..i confused...as usual

Theres two 14bolts.

Full floater which is the original 10.5 ring, only came 8 lug. Thats the one ton rear but dont be confused but because these rears did come in 3/4 ton trucks before the semi floater came out.

The semi floating 14 bolt is a 9.5in ring, and replaced the full floater in 3/4 ton applications, so yes there are 2 different 14bolt rears.

The rear your friend is speaking of does exist. They were in commonly referred to as "Heavy half tons and LD 3/4 tons". These were in 88-98 trucks and can be commonly found in any 2500 you find that is 6 lug and any half ton that came with a diesel.

The semi floating 14 bolt is basically the same strength as a dana 60 with good axle shafts in it.

The mid 90s ss454 1500 reg cab short box 2wd pickups got a hybrid 14bolt 6 lug iirc.

I used to have one they are 5 lug and first time I looked under the truck and saw that I was shocked. I beat the crap out of that truck and never had one problem from the rear end.
