Lol Lost the rear driverside wheel this morning on the way to work, well almost!:eek1: My DD 95 VW jetta 230,000miles and still goin, well kinda:doah:. Apperently the outer wheel bearing was shot and sheared the cotter pin off and spun the bolt off and the wheel just bout fell off. I was driving down a straight road bout 35-40mph and heard a funny grinding noise a crunch sound and then the car felt very loose. pulled off into a parking lot and got out and saw the rear tire sticking out bout 2-3 inches past the body!
Ive never had a wheelbearing go without warning before. none of the tell tail signs. i notice last night once on a straight stretch that it made a grinding noise when i slowed down, but only for a few seconds. weird.

anyhow so anyone one know where i can get a diagram of the rear axle stub componts and such. think i have a pretty good idea of what all i need to replace but figure it wouldnt hurt to be sure.

buddy's full size bronco did that doin 70 mph down I-5 in washington.... front right tire/wheel....
Somehow the brakeline managed to hold the whole thing together long enought to pull over...

He spilt is pop on his lap.. looked like he pissed himself...

years ago my grandpa had a jeep TJ. The day after he sold it back to the dealership, he gets a call and the guy at the dealer ship say " You know your lucky to be alive, The wheel broke clean off the front of the jeep going 50mph"

Probably did piss himself and then poured the soda in his lap to hide it:rolleyes:

Wow! I've been around drag racing off and on for over 40 years and have never seen anything like that.

Last winter up in Fallon, NV I had a 3500 chevy van almost lose its front right wheel when that bearing fell apart. whatever retains that bearing and the brake caliper is what kept it together long enough to stop. After picking up the pieces of the bearing which fell out all over the road we discovered that chevy, and I am sure other, use wheel bearings with a plastic cage. This was an 07 van.

lol, completely unrelated, but awesome non-the less. i can only hope and pray that if i ever get rear ended i have a few packets of katchup so i can screw with someones mind :)

I have lost one wheel, and had an axle come out on another vehicle. The lost wheel was when I was on a date in my 74 Bug, heading back home with a blown clutch when it started shaking then dropped the right rear tire. I had rotated the tires before the date, and had apparently forgotten to tighten the lugs.:doah:
The axle was on a 75 Furd F-100 that I had. I was on my way out of a local canyon, pressed on the gas and the RPM's went up but I didn't speed up. Looked at the mirrors and could see the right rear sticking out from the fender. Turned to the right a little to push it back in, then drove the ten miles remaining to get back to town.

I had a dent in my samurai from a guy behind me, he drove over the railroad tracks lost a front wheel flew about 20 ft hit a telephone pole and then landed on my samurai. I kid you not. We were laughing so hard it took us 20 minutes to go get the wheel and tire which were about 150 ft away.

I haven't but my brother has :haha::haha::haha::haha::haha::haha::haha::haha::haha::haha:

When I was learning to drive Dad thought it was a good idea I learn to change a tire. So I took a rear tire off and put it back on. Who knew there was a lug tightening pattern:dunno::what:

So brother goes out on a date and you know the rest.

In my defense when he heard banging my brother slowed down but kept driving. The banging got worse and he slowed down again. To about 45mph. I guess it never occurred to him to pull over and check it out:doah:

My friend lost a the back wheel on his Cherokee in the middle of downtown, didn't really feel it just kind of a bump then all of a sudden the wheel passed us up. It was pretty funny watching people as a big ass tire goes hauling ass past them

<---------that was on the way to a hooters convention. axle and all came out and passed me as my truck skidded on the brake pads down the road. recovered the wheel and had the truck towed back to the house. Jumped in my other truck and went on to hooters to enjoy the rest of the day!

well i got the car towed down to my gargage and got it unloaded of the rollback moved 1 ft and the wheel fell off. so i hopped in fired up the car and drove it in the shop. The tow truck driver just bout lost it, he thought it was funny as hell! And to think i was gona spend my weekend yankin the tranny out of the camaro and redoing the rear in it to get it ready for spring! Oh well Sh+it happens!

I lost my left rear wheel twice on my old Blazer with aluminum rims. Both times it was on the same road going about 45 MPH. The truck started to shake really bad, I let off the gas, and then BANG, the wheel popped off and went flying past me. The truck handled well with one missing wheel, I just pulled over and put the wheel back on.

After the second time it happened I bought new lug nuts and that solved the problem; apparently the threads were a little stretched on the nuts.
