Ever lost a wheel?

Lost a rear tire on the k5 back when it was stock. 45 down the road and no warning, drum dragging the ground and my tire flying down the road into on coming traffic. Lucky my brother jump out quick enough to stop the tire from hitting a new vette.

I lost a front wheel on my Blazer going 60 mph on the ohio turnpike...:eek1:
The backing plate on my D44 stopped the rotor from getting damaged. The wheel and tire rolled over 1/4 mile before it stopped. With 3 studs left, and stealing 3 nuts off the other wheels, I was able to travel 10 miles back home.

Talk about sparks...a 1/2" of the backing plate was gone!!!! :eek1: :eek1: :eek1:

i lost a wheel on my chevelle back in 2000, the tire passed me going way faster then i was going (and i had to find it when all said and done), and it crunched my fender pretty good. I had DRUMS, so i just put the tire back on with 3 lugs and drove home. The only repair i did was put new studs on, the drum was fine, just had a flat spot on one side from the grinding.

I lost a wheel- kinda.
Went to go from a red light and it revved but hardly moved. Limped it to the closest parking lot and looked around but saw nothing. I really thought the gov-loc12 bolt had given out (again). While it was being unloaded from the dust pan tow truck the pass side rear wheel just kinda folded up into the wheel well. It had broken the studs- replaced the studs and was good to go. To this day I don’t understand how the tire stayed on and what made it not move very well when I gave it gas. That was when it was stock and had white wagon wheels on it.

Loosing a wheel

I almost lost a rear wheel on my 89K5, the passenger rear tire had gone flat and the jack i had wouldn't quite jack it all the way up. I managed to wedge the spare on, but didn't realize that the lugs weren't really on correctly. About 5 miles later started hearing 'ker-chunk ker-chunk) from the rear. Broke off 3 of the lugs. Tightened down the rest, and went VERY carefully to the local firestone. When I was about 17 however, someone thought it would be REALLY funny to remove the lugnuts on the rear of my duster and then put the hubcap back on. That wheel came off doing 60 down a 2-lane highway, and the axel promptly dug into the ground and spun the car around about 3 times. I hit a mailbox, the ditch, and another car with the loose wheel! Scared the fire outta me. It took us 15 minutes to find the wheel (nearly 1/4 of a mile from where i stopped) another 10 minutes to find the brake hub (which was cracked in 3 places) and another 10 minutes to find the hubcap. We never did find any of the lugnuts. The lugs were pristine, we had it towed, got a brake hub and new lug nuts, and kept on driving it for another 2 years. Folded up the rear quarter really good, but otherwise didn't do any damage to the car.
