Ever Wonder How Many Factories GM Has???

I liked the way the Monaro and Commodore were styled personally. Got all hopeful when they released the Monaro GTO edition a few years ago over in Aus...then the GTO shows up with that fugly Pontiac grill...

I actually LIKED the GTO. But I have 3 early Corvairs, so who am I to talk!!!

What's the story 'bout the PIX?

I just took delivery this AM of the '84 4x4 Sub 6.2 3/4T (biege) and the '64 Corvair that I bought and drove for a week in California last month.

Ther are actually 6 Chebys, The 3500 is hidden behind Apt., and a '79 2wd 3/4T from Ca in da barn.

'Nuff BOWTIES??? LUV IT!!! Ug

Your killin me! :D I love both Yosemite and Corvairs (and of course K trucks). In fact we used to drive up to Yosemite in my dad's old 6.2 'burb when I was a kid - it looked just like your beige one - except 1/2T and 2WD. Man that thing blew smoke at high elevation! :eek1:

In other news:

I thought the Monero looked better than the GTO too. It is too bad, the GTO was awesome on paper, but never looked good enough to justify the price. I hope they get it right with the next Camaro. I'd like to see their Ute as an El Camino as well. :waytogo:

Unfortunately GM is never gonna have 60% of the US market again like they did in the old days. They need to get the US part of the company resized to the 25% or so of the market they can realistically keep. They need to be a much smaller, more nimble company. I hate to say it, but I think they need to kill another brand or two. But right now, that is a big ship to turn around, and they haven't done themselves any favors with the way they have structured thie contracts with the UAW and others. I hope they get that right too. I just hope their management is smarter than a bunch of people yapping on some message board somewhere :haha: (me included). :doah:

This talk has been prevalent up here as of late given our strong dollar. As I'm sure many have heard, our vehicles here are priced far over what you can get the same vehicle for in the US. In high end vehicles we can expect to pay 10 grand MORE!

Now that is crap no matter what the case is, but now with our strong dollar it is nothing short of robbery. So Canadians respond by buying over the border. GM's (and others?) response is that they won't honor the warranty's! WTF?!

You can ask just about anyone. Buddy, workmate, grandma, aunt they all KNOW that Asian vehicles are going to last longer and are generally 'better built' vehicles. You can throw German and Swedish in there as well I'd safely say.

It infuriates me that companies like GM can get by building openly sub par vehicles. Overprice them and then act like the buying public owes them a favor because they are "home grown" or we are investing in our jobs and we should be patriotic.

A vehicle is the second biggest expenditure in the average consumers life next to a home. It is also the single WORST investment you can make. And these days warranty's are dubious, dealer support minimal, and you get 'nervous' when the odometer hits anything close to 100 000.

My next vehicle (tomorrow?) is a lease take over and yep it's a GM. This was decision based ENTIRELY on the dollar figure. When I'm in a better financial position I'm going overseas.

Rant over, breath, breath :D

I agree, I love GM, and would prefer to buy "American", but my wife's next car is probably going to be a Honda, built just north of here in Ohio. I don't have enough money lying around to spend it on charity for the big three or "American" jobs.

GM still thinks it is the king of automakers, but in a year or two Toyota will be the biggest car company in the world. Maybe that will give them some perspective.

However, GM's quality and their cars in general are getting better, they are not there yet, but better. It also helps that Toyota's quality has taken a dump recently.

Of course, of the 9 cars I have owed so far, I have yet to buy a new one. It is hard to beat the value of a 2-3 year old car with an aftermarket warranty (or a 20-60 year old car or truck and some elbow grease). So I guess my buying decisions don't have a direct impact on any of the automakers. :D

x2.

The newest vehicle I've ever bought was over a year and a half old when we got it a few years ago. Came with a factory warranty and off we went for $12k less than the first owner paid a year and a half and 22,000 miles earlier.

Ever looked up the depreciation on S10's in the last few years?
Friend's bro in law's old junker died in front of a Chevy dealership a few years ago. They had one of those "$x,000 for any vehicle" trade in deals going on. They grab some guys, push it onto the lot, and he drives off a while later with a brand spanking new ZR2 S10 pickup...
...few weeks later he starts to think maybe a 1500 would have been better and looks into doing a swap/trade...
...only to discover his $25k S10 is worth about $13k at approximately a month old with less than 2000 miles on it.:eek1:
