Okay so your guy's input and expertise...
what muffler and header do yall suggest or run yourselfs?

i looked into hooker headers and a hooker muffler
sounded pretty nice..
im running the 400 smb

I think super 40 flowmasters sound the best. Mine has had glasspacks and super 40s with no cats. Glasspacks were OK, just loud and had a tendancy to back fire. Swapped in the super 40s and the backfire went away for the most part and the motor got a low mean rumble. Couldn't really tell much of a difference sound wise between the stock exhaust manifolds and long tubes.

I have a 406sbc in my truck. I have douge thorley headers, try-Y, 3" single exhaust with a high flow cat super 44 flowmaster and mandrel bent tail pipe in stock location. The 40 series has quite a bit of resonance, especially if you dump it under the truck. I hate the sound of the 50 series. It sounds too sporty or import like. The super 44 is the deepest sounding flowmaster. It is loud outside, but deeper than the 40 and quieter inside than the 40. My dad said it has a unique sound and he can hear it about a mile away from the house in a decent sized city.

My K5 has stock manifolds, a tbi 5.7 and a flowmaster 70 series. It is quiet, but still has a great sound especially when you get on it. With the ac going and windows up, I can hear the exhaust just a little inside, when I get on it.

It really depends on how loud you like yo
ur exhaust, me personally, I've gotten older, outgrown the loud exhaust, but still like a decent rumble tone.

I liked the Hooker Aerochamber I had on my Camaro, also the 50 & 70 series Flowmasters sound nice, nice tone & rumble, without the annoying loudness.

I agree ^^^^^. I started out with putting true duals with full length hooker headers, with cats eliminated and series 40s, way too raspy for a basically stock 305cid. I put some CatCo Cats back on, better but grew tired of the rumble, cats took the raspyness out. I then went to Dynamax mufflers and it is now perfect for me. Not OEM quiet but not race car loud.

I did a post on BALL & SOCKET Collectors, I would highly suggest you go to that type of connection as apposed to the traditional 3 bolt flange with gasket. Ball & Socket doesnt require gasket.

im running
headman torque step hedders
2.5" duals
crossover pipe
flowmaster 50 series suv mufflers
quiete at idle, no interior drone ,sounds mean under power

At 22 years old Im in the same boat already. For a v8 I would run glasspacks into flow master 80 series dumped off the side behind the rear tire if its a blazer or straight out the back if its a pickup. Also I would keep the cats and just get highflow bullets.

I bet your backfire was caused by a bad weld or poorly sealed clamp letting air seep into the exhaust pipe when you let off the throttle.

I put Hooker longtubes on my 79. They fit awesome. Very happy with the 2 pairs of Hookers Ive bought, will buy them again for my ford.

why add more in the system than needed ? ? :dunno:

glass packs blow out so fast to begin with its a waste of money .

there is better options for quiet and bark in 1 out there . and if trying to elminate resination then buy a smaller specific resinator to add in .

look here for good old school . i had a set of 2" in/out 24 long on my first truck . was awsom and good for dd use and LOUD when foot to the floor. http://classicchambered.com/index.html

I'm running a similiar setup w/ Hedman Elite #69230 headers, a crossover and pipe at 2.5" dia, Single 3.5"/3.5" Flowmaster 50 BigBlock, and 3.5" tail piece. Made the mistake of running 3.5" all the way and lost too much bottom end. Called Flowmaster, and they dialed me in w/ the proper amt of back-pressure needed. I run a SBC 406 ci. It sounds nice, subtle at idle, aggressive at WOT.:waytogo:

Got longtubes with glasspacks on the 83, its straight loud

Got longtubes with thrush welded(flow master 40 knockoff) on my 67 beaumont with a 383 sbc. Sounds great.

Ive also ran Dynomax ultra flow welded's on my dd's and have liked them, good sound with little drone on the highway.

I use the hooker aero chamber mufflers and I love them, Ive used flow masters before and used the thrush knockoff when I didn't have the money for aero chamber's.

They don't make a muffler big enough to make my truck quiet. I have limited room due to the links and shocks. So it's stock manifolds, into y and dumped out behind the drivers door. Soooooo tired of listening to it.

What about a super trapp muffler?

No room. Last bend is 3 inches from the tip. Maybe I could stick it out the side and use it as a step.:D

Would something like this work, ya weld it inside the exhaust and the also make some for headers...
