Hey guys...Been a while since i was on. Been busy playing with my DD. I recently started picking back up on the truck and ran into a few fix problems. Upon recharging the AC after converting to 134 or whatever the new stuff is, and dumping in 2 bottles...a belt popped off. Bring it down to the shop and they end up replacing that, as well as 2 others that werent on there. Start it up, and it begins smoking. Wouldnt you know? The AC compressor is seized up! :mad1: Why, in the middle of a heat wave, would i need AC?
So i drive the truck anyways, and just like my mechanic said..."your going to need exhaust soon". Well, i guess soon is NOW. It started making a ton of noise and you can feel it about to give out. SOOOO...Now, id like to upgrade the exhaust. I did some research and came up with flowmaster 44's. A lot of guys are running them it seems, and they arent incredibly loud, but give it some growl. Orrr, people go with the flowmaster 50's. Anyone have any specific input? Also, i went on LMC Truck about 2 montsh ago, and they had a full exhaust setup with flowmasters. However, they currently dont have the setup on there anymore and i dont know who else to go to. Any ideas on that?

Thanks for listening to the rant. I am trying to prepare it for the beach trip im taking to Montauk, Long Island in about 2 weeks. Any help is GREATLY appreciated!

I'm running 50 series SUV. Truck sounds nice, but its a little louder than i was expecting.

Go to the Flowmaster site CLICKY it has graphs that show how loud they are. The super 44's are one of the loudest. I have the super 40's, 3", no Cats, and true duals on a mild 400 with headers and it's LOUD. On my 91 TBI 454 I have a HD50 series single 3" in dual 2.5" out no CAT and it's much quieter. It's good @ Idle and partial throttle, but will get attention when you get on it.

Thanks for the quick replies! I'm on a time limit, which is annoying. I think the 50's is a better option then. I cannot STAND drone, and it's a 2 hour trip each way where I go. Does anyone have any recommendations for a full exhaust kit? Should I go with the full flow master kit? Or just buy the mufflers and find the pipes somewhere else?

need info on truck.......Year, make, model, engine, CAT or no, Single or dual exhaust?

Oh, sorry! Thought I mentioned
It. It's stock 1987 gmc jimmy Sierra classic 5.7 v8. Single exhaust. Everything is stock, minus suspension.

I checked and I guess Dynomax doesn't make a tailpipe kit for the K5/Jimmy. They are my go-to guys for tailpipes. The problem I normally have with most of the kits is that they exit in front of the rear wheel. It's too bad you don't live local to me as I have a 3" set up here that would be probably be perfect.:doah:

As far as ordering the Flowmaster, I would get it from Summit. I think they are still doing the "totally free shipping" right now.

Ok so I looked around and found the flow master with the 50 series...

That's from jegs, and I found this one from summit...

I believe they are both the same. If you say ok, I'll order it today and hope it sounds good.

Apparently I can't post urls yet, so I took out the www from the beginning

No drone at all, even with the headers now. And not i did not buy a kit. I had a local exhaust shop do a the pipeing. Ran me 450.00 with mufflers and 2.5" pipe.

Here is more of a interior sound for you. All windows are up.

That sounds great. I may have to look into it. Sad thing is...my grandfather builds exhaust for the race cars he builds or the fire department! But he's too busy to build one...sad..

How is when your driving? Annoying? Or can you not tell from driving? I have a soft top and it's usually down. Sorry for the questions...

Dont be sorry for asking questions. Thats why we are all here. :waytogo:
When you are at a idle its noticeable, but not anoying to you or those around you, just sorta a low rumble. When you are taking off from idle it is very smooth and deep, but more of a deep/loud. When cruising it is calm and deep, no drone, just nice and melow. When you put your foot into it, well it opens up and sounds like hell is breaking loose. I am also running true duals, no Y, no H, or no X pipe. Each one of those will change how it sounds. With true duals you hear the left, and right bank, seperatly, sorrta sounds like a small cam. Now with my headers if you listen real close you can almost hear every pulse at idle. I hope this helps.
