While crawling under the suburban looking for a coolant leak I noticed a crack in the passenger side manifold.

What year and body style are a good boneyard pick?

I have a 90 suburban v2500, 350, no a.i.r.

One junkyard quote is $65. I'll do headers before I pay that kind of change. Not wanting to do headers. No budget for it.

thanks

Don't bother with a used one, they warp and...CRACK. I bought new replacements for mine at Car Quest for $100 each, or if you're not in a hurry, you can get 'em on ebay cheaper than that.

The PS one on my 89 Sub broke under the heat shield. I got a new one from Advance auto for 85.00. I read on here that they shrink over time and the holes will not line back up. Use plenty of PB Blaster, I still broke two bolts off.

Agreed, go new or get headers. My pass side came off in three separate chunks when I removed it.

Mine is cracked too (87) I am just going to save up to get some good shorty headers

Thanks guys. Didn't think parts outlets would carry exhaust manifolds.

Will check it out thanks!

NAPA had one in stock for $119 w/limited lifetime warranty. Would consider headers but 70 mph is almost 3000 rpms. To avoid the heat I would need to go with ceramic coated, and the noise.... I could deal with it. But I'd like to have a conversation with the wife and kids on a road trip. Road trips is what I had in mind when buying this rig.

Now to inspect the drivers side.........

I went and picked up the manifold. I let the guy behind the counter know I wasn't happy. It says made in CHINA on the box. The parts guy and I had this discussion a week ago when I went to buy a water pump for my Camaro. I didn't take the chinese water pump then, I bought the remanufactured one. I told him if I find a not made in china exhaust manifold I would return this one.

Dorman brand manifolds are made in china. Seems that is all that is at the parts stores. The chevy dealer said they are discontinued. But gmpartsdirect has them on their website. But no part numbers show.

Guess I just have developed a strange "tick" over the last two years. I buy made in the USA whenever possible. I get really annoyed when a product I want to buy isn't made anywhere but China. I'm just about annoyed enough to drop $500 on a set of made in the USA headers. The guys at work think I'm weird.

I have never had an issue with used exh. manifolds. Yes sometimes they suck to put on, but Ive never had one crack. Ive never paid for them either though, and maybe they were different casting that we had too?

I'd look for a good used one myself..those cheap China ones often crack soon after installation, the junkyards here USED to sell those new ones, now they have suddenly dissapeared!!..go for the good old made in USA originals, deal with the bolt holes not lining up if you must..nothing a drill bit wont fix..

Going to the local you pull the part yard this weekend. Bringing a cordless sawzall for the exhaust pipe. Those stud nuts are the ones I've had the most problem with. If the bolts snap off in the heads so what, not my problem.

Wet, Muddy, Sandbags, Hea I checked and thought I had what you needed BUT just took off the heat shield that was riveted on to be sure and found a big crack. So i guess I have saved that thing over 2 yrs for nothing. Sorry

Thanks anyways. Stay dry.

Cracked manifolds seem to be more common than I thought. Did not realilze this until I had one.

I'm with you on the China stuff... bought some brake drums for my Spirit a while back. They were made in China- I couldn't get them turned once! They were practically out of legal limits when made.

Finally picked up a set out of the local pick a part yard. $47. Unfortunately they are for a.i.r. My suburban didn't have the tubes.

Anyone know the part ## that plugs the smog tube ports on the exhaust manifolds?

Also I got KICKED out of the junkyard today! You go away. We closed!! Awesome made my week. Made the busted knucks worth it.

I never did get around to changing out the cracked manifold. It has been a busy six months. I'm going hunting next thursday and noticed the crack is bigger. It isn't making noise, yet. I'm worried the rough dirt road will really crack it open.

I am unable to find a plug to install in the a.i.r. tube hole. The made in china exhaust manifold I saw at the parts store had a plug installed. I should check that out. Anyone have experience with this?
