Going to get a clocking ring for my 241 and make my k5 a flat belly. I'm looking at a whole new exhaust since my manifolds are cracked. 350/700r4/241. 1989 k5. I'm thinking some block hugger headers like: http://www.jegs.com/i/Hedman/500/68360/10002/-1?parentProductId=747464 and running it from passenger side around towards the front, under motor right by the oil pan and collecting with the driver side and then a single 3 inch exit. I was just wondering how all of you guys did it. Oh and since I already exhaust wrapped and it sucked, I was thinking about doing ceramic coating. Do you guys think with the pipe being so close to the oil pan that it'd be a worth investment.

I would run it under the torque converter first. Mine goes right underneath my pan, fit better there with my front axle and everything, haven't ever had a problem with it.

I used block huggers and ran the passenger side straight down and under the oil pan to the other side then connected both pipes into a single outlet. kept the pipe about 1.5" from the oil pan on the bottom. Seemed to work good and had plenty of room.

One thing that you may want to keep in mind is that my block huggers wouldn't work with factory motor mounts. The passenger side cleared but the driver side hit. I moved my driver side mount forward a little and cut the flange off the header and lowered it down to clear cause Im cheap, but some aftermarket motor mounts like the ones from diy4x will clear I think.

I'm running a 454 with shorty headers into a 2.5" Y pipe to a single 3" down the driver's side. I'm not running a flat belly but the exhaust is high and tight enough to clear.

There are pics and info in the photobucket and build thread links in my sig.

there is a few threads in here on what full length headers clear shackles and are up in the frame and dont hang lower than the bottom rail lip.

also as said under the convt cover or bell housing area is the norm.

if building a y-pipe i like the flowmaster scavanger series y-pipe units.

and runn it down the driverside for all the room you need past the tranny and t-case.

Theres a lot of the Ultra 4 cars running exactly what you are descibing. Seems to work for all of them. Yes ceramic coat and it will be fine.
