exhaust suggestions?

I'm definitely looking that direction. I don't mind a few extra welds if it saves me hundreds of dollars.

Thanks for all the input guys. At the moment I'm leaning towards 2-1/2" y pipes to 3" through a cat, muffler then out the drivers side just behind the tire. I'm still undecided on which muffler though.

Those of you with y pipes, got any pics? I've always had dual exhaust so I don't even know where the best place to cross over is going to be. Do I need to make sure I can unbolt it from the single section? I don't want to be in a situation where I have to cut it in order to get the tranny out.

This is the way that I am going with mine. The guy that did mine the first time talked me into a 2 1/4 into a 2 1/2 setup exiting where you are planning with a 50 series and I do not like the sound at all. I am going to go with your proposed setup with either a DynoMax or 40 series (cat should quiet down enough for my "older" tastes)

I will take a picture of the y pipe that we built (a bit smaller, but a good design concept) for you tonight

cool, thanks!

I decided to take a lap around the junkyard to see if there was anything usable there. Interestingly enough I found a chevy van with 2-1/4 y pipe into 3" exhaust out the drivers side. I can pick the whole thing up for about $20. I'm thinking it might be worth grabbing it for that price and seeing how hard it would be to modify and add a new muffler and cat to it.

I can tell you from experience, flowmaster 40s and a LS is gonna be drone city. It was all I could afford after my swap, running a Borla ProXS 40349 now and the difference is significant. No drone and a more refined sound.

Reed Muffler in Harrisvile is where I got mine done. Do not remember the cost but it was not all that bad.

when i had mufflers installed, i told him i did not want loud but something that flowed, he put mufflers designed for rvs sounds good but not to loud.

I run a cat with my 50. Love it, but again, I'm doorless and have loud tires.
Personally, best way to run a Y pipe. Completely out of the way and couldn't damage it on the trail if I tried.

picked up these pipes today:

Since the y-pipe is only 2-1/4 it's a compromise on what I really wanted but I think I can make it work and for $20 it's worth a shot. It only took me about 15 minutes to grab too.

If it sucks or I can't make it work I'm really not out anything so I figured why not. :pimp: Heck, maybe if I get it all together I can at least use it for a template for some mandrel bent stuff.

That looks like a good deal. My exhaust on the crewcab had pretty much the same layout. I had to change the first bend off the exhaust manifold on the passenger side. Basically changed the 90° to two 45° bends to cut that corner a little tighter. Even after that, I've still managed to hit that pipe with the front driveshaft but I think that was before I had bumpstops in.

I could have sworn the tbi y pipes are 2.5" off the manifolds.
maybe so, but I believe they all go passenger side anyway. :dunno:

I was looking at something like this maybe:

It doesn't look like it turns up at all so I could flip it to either side I think. That said, it's a little pricey.

I probably need to look more at something like this:

then cobble that together with a few 45s, 90s, etc...

scott, what did you do as far as holding it up into place while you worked on it? Everything I'm imagining right now sounds like a royal pain in the butt.
