EZ-inch question

If you guys think mechanics are using torque wrenches on u-bolts, you are sadly mistaken.

Which is why I don't take my vehicles to a mechanic. Even when I have my tires replaced the first thing I do is loosen the lug nuts and torque them properly because they always over tighten them with their impact guns and warp the rotors.

I think a big message in this mess of a thread is that no matter what your school of thought is on the matter, you should check your u bolts every so often for tightness. New or used.

Quoted for truth!

Another vote for re-using them and replacing as needed.....

I clean and inspect the entire U-bolt,,,
Run the nut up and down the entire length of the thread with some oil and the impact and socket to spin it freely...any binding or hard spots in the threads and I toss the u-bolt.

I always use new nuts and washers....

torque them and recheck them for a few weeks..
