im pretty sure i got a 6" no name lift on my truck and it rides like a dump truck. i came into some extra cash(from workin my arse off) and i wanted to replace the springs. im looking at 6" ez rides all spring lift front and rear. I just dont have the tools for the shackle flip so im goin all spring. currently im putting the 14 bolt in the rear and converting the front to 8 lug(10 bolt) i was seeing where the cheapest place to get them is. also im contemplating getting 4" instead(daily driver) and trimming the hell out of my fenders i dont know what to do:confused:

also what about shackles? do i need any or can i just bolt up to the stock hangers? thanks guys you always pull through for me-Nick

I cant answer all your questions, only advice I can give is buy some new shackles. I just did my lift and thats the one thing I didnt buy and wished I had because the rubber bushings are somewhat cracked. Stock shackles are only like $15ea at lmctruck and DIY4X.COM sells some HD shackles. Shackles can allways be replaced later, but it would be nice to upgrade everything at once....jmo

there no such thing as a "no-name" lift. i heard some complain that the rough country springs sucked (i don't see how, rough country been making **** for like 20yrs! but whatever). Its supposed to ride like a dump truck. Thats half the fun of bouncing down the street! don't think just cause it says e z ride its gonna b THAT different. my 2 cents...if u have a lift already on it spend money on other stuff....bushings, shocks, tools to install shackle flip....roll bar/cage...crossover steering...hell, a 1ton frt to match back...etc. its gonna b about $400/set..so u looking at 800-1000 for 4 new springs! 6" is fine for daily...but u may need all new (both) shafts...i did..and did not figure that into my "cheese" supply. $300/pc...sucked. well great NOOOOW!!!!

Nick,

The shackle flip is really going to ride better than any lift spring in the back.

If you REALLY can't do that, Tuff Country is going to be the best you can do short of buying custom springs from us.

But for example, we had a truck in the shop here that had 6" rear Tuff Country springs and we swapped a 4" shackle flip and a 3" Tuff Country spring into it and got 35% more travel out of the rear suspension.

The softest off the shelf setup is 4" Tuff Country EZ rides in the front and a shackle flip in the rear. A 4" rear Tuff Country is the next best option.

Not everyone expects their truck to ride like a dump truck, and there is a BIG difference between springs. Especially between Rough Country and Tuff Country.

I was going to do a shackle flip on mine, but I just didnt want to drop the tank, cut/grind rivots etc so I went with TC EZ leafs all 4 corners. Plus my factory leafs were shot anyway and needed replacing

yeah i dig it...i love the "dump truck" ride....friggin blast to drive! but to each his own. but your right about the "flip". lots of work in the driveway.....i didn't realize how much gas i had in tank (gaugie no workie) when i dropped mine! wow. but had fun! later dudes

Let us know how it rides afterwards, up front I have 6" pro comp springs and it rides like it has no suspension travel at all. The rear is stock springs with zero rate, DIY4x shackle flip and slightly longer rear shackle and it still rides rough, but I suppose that's to be expected in the rear with stock 7 leaf springs in the back. Wish I could make mine ride better as well.

so can the same be accomplished with 6" tuff countrys? Or is a shorter lift the only answere for a better ride? I have a 6" lift on my truck and it also rides like a brick.

What do you mean? What is your current setup?

My current set up is a 6" front springs, 4" rear block and aal out back.

in your above post you replaced a guys 6" lift with a 3/4" setup. so my question is, what if a guy wants to keep 6" springs/ lift setup- Do 6" ez rides ride as nice as 4" ones? or does more arch always equal more stiff?

6" rear springs start getting pretty stiff no matter what. You could simply replace the 4" block with a shackle flip but that by itself isn't going to eliminate your harsh ride. The cause of that is largely your add-a-leaf, the entire way it puts more lift into the stock spring is by raising the spring rate a bunch.

Unfortunately, because you have a 56" rear spring there aren't many options for 2-3" lift springs and the few that are around are expensive.

So, my recommendations would be:

a) Get a 4" shackle flip and a 1" zero rate if you can deal with only 5" of lift.

b) Get a 4" shackle flip and a 2" block. The 2" block isn't bad, it really doesn't exert the problems that the 4-6" ones do.

c) Get a 2.5" shackle flip with a 4" rear spring.

d) Have us make you a custom set of springs, best ride, flex and whatever height you want with the highest cost

If you want 6" of lift in the rear I'd personally recommend the shackle flip and block.

We keep hassling Tuff Country and a few other spring manufacturers to make 2" lift 56's but so far they don't want to or want too large of a quantity to make it feasible.

honestly , my rear springs are not so bad. probably cause i always have a few hundred pounds of tools back there all the time, plus the canopy. its the fronts that are stiff as hell. i guess i wasn't clear- i was more asking if there is a nice riding 6" front spring. however, i'm sure the answere is still the same- custom springs.
