Fabbed up a new rollbar

Why not just mount it to the hardtop? My truck came with a roof rack like that. I was going to remove it but it comes in handy at times. It would use a lot less steel and be a lot more stable. I am 100% comfortable standing on top of mine and it's pretty booty fab...a smarter design would be damn near professional lol.

When you go to test 'er out by havin' the truck tumble down a hill with you in it, let me know, I'll bring the popcorn

Hate to be an a$$, but you aren't going to use that as a roll bar are you? I understand the Safari rack type setup, the idea sounds neat, but it's all going to fit under the shell?

No part of me believes that it would protect me during a rollover just to clarify.

Out in west Texas we do alot of predator hunting at night. We use red spotlights and electronic calls and kill foxes, bobcats, and coyotes. High racks give us more shot opportunities.

Got a little more done on it, all we lack is some rails and a seat.

That's going to be a nice setup. High racks are good for night hunting because you're not trying to shoot out the window, around the cab or over your buddy that's holding the spotlight.

Lots of guys around here have them.

I'm def looking forward to it, I think some of you guys still think I'm building it as a rollbar...

Maybe your thread title has somethin' to do with that

I am interested as to what direction you'll take, it really looks like a safari rack, sure is coming together though:waytogo:

The tabs are 3/8" flat bar. There is less than an inch between where the bedrail ends and where the uprights are welded. We thought at first that this would be our weak point and were planning on having to change it, but after having over 600 lbs up there yesterday moving around for a good while I think they will do the job.

and 'Nator, this is similar to what its going to end up being:

Finished product. We decided to just use dove hunting buckets with swivel seats instead of mounting permanent seats so we can arrange them however we like for each stand.

Since it has to be unbolted, how do you keep it from getting knocked off while you slide the hard top in from the back? I'll be curious to see if that can be done by 2 people.

The design is looking stronger.

Doubt it will be able to be done by 2 people, but that's what friends are for!

We will either use 4 people and just shimmy it in, or we might get creative and use some 1/2" dowel rods to roll it forward with 2 people.

High of 100 today in West Texas with no sign of rain or cooler weather, so right now its not an issue!

Looks, good man. Should of posted title as look at my "hunting rack" would of got alot more props. Looks good though.
