OK here is what I am doing I am putting a full face (din and a half) radio in to my truck. Factory AM/FM CD from GM I got for next to nothing. My full face one is screwed up. The cost of a new one is not in budget.

The PO had cut the dash for the full face (thin one). I have the full face dash bezel so that is good. I put it on the dash and traced the opening with a scribe and just need to be sure I go cutting dash.

Anyone have their bezel off and can take picture of area so I can see just how big the hole is. I want to be right no room for error if I cut wrong. I had planed a nice tech article but got ahead of myself.

This is type I am putting in

I can't help with the fitment, but I can say that your new headunit is a very good piece of equipment. I put one of those into my 96 K1500 and it was a major improvement over the stock one.

i would just leave the pioneer head unit in unless theres a problem with it. ive got a pioneer unit in my 81 k20 and it works awesome.

OK so I am nearing completing this if the rain holds off Sunday. I have the wiring done and have a question as to what these marks are for? I guess the SVC is for when the truck is being worked on but what are the others?

Now you got to find a wrecked GM vehicle with the changer that controls :D

Pauly this one didn't need a changer. It kicks arse has great sound picks up stations I never could before with the other one. It even has a built in Auto Tone pre set EQ for music. I can't wait to get the back speakers in and working.

I will get complete pictures up when I have it all done.

The SCV is for Speed Controlled Volume so it automatically raises the volume as speed increases (i.e. when you get on the highway). I think the tic marks just adjust the factor of volume increase.

I have no idea how you would hook this up in an older rig.

^^^^^Damn my slow fingers!!!^^^^^^

Recalling my fathers Lumina, I think that controls volume/speed of vehicle. Speed up, and the radio increases the volume to compensate for road noise. But I have no idea which way is which.

Just make sure that that unit is not controlled by a Body controll module like some of the newer ones before you cut that big hole. Don't remeber when all that changed. Saw the anti theft on the front which made me think of that.

Teck I had a 1989 GMC Jimmy that was full faced and that is where I got the thought to do this. I saw no difference in the dash area. and the bezel fit but two screws were different.

The hole is cut and all wires hooked up per GM setup. Pictures are not that good will take better

Yeah, subscribed.

My '89 that I just bought has the DIN and a half sized head unit stock. Didn't even know they had that until the other day.

Yes I knew they put the din and half in the 89 to 91's. Just did not remember how they where hooked up. Looks good let us know how it works out.
I need to find a radio for my '86 rebuild

What is the model number on the "new" radio? What did it come out of? Been thinking of doing the same thing, so looking forward to see how it comes out for you.

OK just need to tweak it a little more but here it is almost finished. TECH to come in write up after tweaking it a little more.

It's cool that radio doesn't need CAN messages to operate. I would half expect the anti-theft features to kick in. I think you can get a slave CD changer and/or cassette deck to mount somewhere else and be controlled by this head unit.

I have a 1 1/2 DIN setup in my 85 and I got by with the original dash bezel, but I still keep my eyes open for a deal on an 89-91 bezel since it's a little better.
