I came across a factory tach in a k5 that was parting out. It was basicly included with some other parts in the deal... but it was unexpected. I don't have much hopes for it if it works that is great if not then that is ok.

Is my 78 non factory tach pigtail a "bolt-in" to this tach cluster? Should I also have grabed the fuse block and wiring up to the tach?

Is this circuit board from a 78? Since this thing has been hacked before I don't know for sure.

Anyone tried using the new tach board from tachman? What would be the cost?

The tach has some light surface rust in some sections. Maybe it is not worth gettting fixed?

the letters will rub off, lightly dust em. my 84 gauges would "wipe" white smears even dusting. youre not as prone to heat as i am, but be careful.

I got one out of a 76 that sat out side for years with no windows in it, it looked like sh#t, so I tryed to clean it with wd40. What a mistake! I now have half of a 4 on it.At least the rest looks good. Anyways I got the wiring that came with it, and it works great!

It's almost plug & play. It would be nice to have the OE harness for the tach, it's a stand alone 3 wire harness. If you don't have it or can't get it, it's not a big deal as the back side of the cluster housing is marked with what each tach pin is for.

The fuel gauge is the only trick, here was my fix... I cut the fuel wires out of the OE dash plug and routed them straight to the new smaller fuel gauge. While doing so I incorporated a 2 wire plug (like a trailer connector) so I could still easily remove the cluster if needed.

Assuming your original cluster had gauges and not idoit lights the rest of the cluster will work fine. :thumb:

pretty straight forward... i had the harness for my tach... but recently during a teardown.. i cant find it.. so looking at the back of the cluster... you can read 12V G and Coil or something like that.. so you can just wire it.. i just put the wires with connectors onto the gauge cluster and ran them out.... it is nice to have the oem harness but not needed...

only thing i had to change was now that the gas gauge is moved to the corner... find the gauge wire and cut it and splice it into the new location..

everything else worked like a charm... until now... i have the OEM gauge cluster with the fuel gauge on the tach... and it works :woot:
