As anyone but me noticed falling truck prices. I have been trying to sell 2 trucks for almost 5 months and unless I give them away or trade them I havent recieved any decent bites on them.
Are fuel prices and the fadeing econemy having that much of an affect?

yeah, i bought a 07 f150 last year and tried to get rid of it, just to break even on it and carmax offered me 6k

i just sold a 95 gmc sonoma with a small block in it for 900 bucks. cause i knew i was never going to get what i want for it and im never going to drive it again. id have sold my k5 last year too if it wasnt for how awesome it is in the winter. and i know dang well i wont get anything for it

This past summer there was a piece on the (local) evening news where they reported that many dealerships would not take a full size pickup as a trade-in.

I think there are a considerable number of people out there who consider fuel economy above all else. Seems short sighted to me. It's the lowest total operating cost per mile that they should be after. An older (cheap) vehicle may be more cost effective to operate when you factor in the costs of money (interest), registration, insurance, depreciation, etc.

Definitely. My wife and I have a low mileage Suzuki XL7 4x4 ("Suburban" version of a Chevy Tracker/Suzuki Grand Vitara). Beginning of this year it was worth $8xxx and a few months ago it was worth $6xxx. We went from actually owing less than it's worth to owing more than it's worth in less than six months. Kick in the junk as we were thinking about selling it and getting an older Suburban or K5.
At least we like it and it gets decent gas mileage.

my new 08 2500hd 6.0 stickered at 28,900 and i got it for 17,800. so it can also be a good that was 3 weeks ago. and i also picked up a 07 hemi qaudcab ram was 34,600 and i got it for 23,200 about 10 months ago. both brand new. so now me and my wife can drive nice truck, that i wouldnt have been able to afford otherwise.

Most definitely. If you can afford the gas then now is the time to pick up the truck you always wanted. I'm seeing all sorts of stuff go for LOTS less than it used to.

Yea I tried to sell my 97 didnt get much interest.
then started looking online and saw MUCH newer trucks for the same price mine SHOULD be worth. I cant justify selling it for less, consitering I know the truck and it can still serve my purpose. I could buy a newer nicer truck right now but it would mean basically giving a good truck away and aquireing another payment. So its just cheaper to keep it and drive it till the wheels fall off.

when i save enough money, i'm gonna build an electric K5

8 more months to go

It's not just trucks. But the worst the mileage the lower the price. Crew cab dually at 7-8 MPG are going very cheap. Houses furniture etc... it'll get worse I believe until elections are over and how the world reacts...
Gas would have to be near $6.50 a gallon for me to justify a car payment. Don't drive many miles a year. Maybe 8 to 10 thousand miles.

Yup. I just sold my cherry 89 V3500 for 50 cents on the dollar. I don't use it anymore, and it was either sell it for really cheap or keep it and watch it die a slow, sad, death.

People are really gonna have to lower their expectations regarding the value of their "stuff" for the next little while. Remember, it's only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it.

A-MEN!

I know where there's a diesel 88 K5 sitting for sale and the guy STILL wants $2750 for it. I'd give him a grand but he's hell bent on selling this thing for what he thinks it is worth...which despite being crusty is more than excellent blue book!

Burbs and crew cabs are going pretty cheap in the plains area, too. If I had 2 grand in hand, I'd be sittin' pretty good on some excellent deals. Most folks are getting rid of thier toys as well (boats, campers.....) so they dont need the tow rigs anymore. Out of all my friends, I'm the only one still driving anything fullsize, so guess who gets called to move furniture and such? It's cool though cuz I dont have to buy beer anymore:D

i drove through chattanooga on the way home from atlanta last week. there was a dealer advertising 2008 f150 XLs on the radio for $11, 995 with a gas card good for $1000. i don't care if it is a furd, that's cheap

There's a Chevy dealership in town that used to have this $15k package of a fairly well equipped single cab, long bed 4x2 with a V8 Silverado half ton. Not 4x4 but a nice enough 2wd truck.

Now they're selling 4x4 extended cabs with the 5.3L and at least as many options for $17k and their lot is FULL.

friend of mine cant trade in his d-maxx. witch sucks thing is junk. nothing but problems.

We are still waiting for fuel prices to drop here. They have been holding steady at $3.98 for the last 2 weeks.

In talking truck sales with a couple of dealership owners (Ford & Dodge) they have both seen truck sales drop 50% starting in April. It is a combination of gas prices, more expensice leasing requirements, tightening credit, and people scarred of the ecomoy.

The other big factor never mentioned is that the big three pretty much presold trucks the last couple of years with easy credit and long loans to anyone and everyone. Not to many people left right now who NEED a new truck. We all have newer trucks already. My pickup is a 2005 and I won't think about trading it in for another 5 years or so.

Of course Obama will save us all:D

Man, $3.98? I just paid $3.52. I thought prices were down a little lower everywhere. Makes me glad I'm in CO.
